New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo lambasted politicians such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and others over Amazon's decision to leave New York City. Opponents of the deal with the tech giant had "put their own narrow political interests above their community," he said.
"[A] small group [of] politicians put their own narrow political interests above their community -- which poll after poll showed overwhelmingly supported bringing Amazon to Long Island City -- the state's economic future and the best interests of the people of this state," Cuomo said in the statement, which did not mention Ocasio-Cortez or other lawmakers by name. "The New York State Senate has done tremendous damage. They should be held accountable for this lost economic opportunity."
In the statement issued by his office, Gov. Cuomo mentioned that Amazon chose the Empire State because it is "the capital of the world and the best place to do business," adding that missing out on Amazon is a lost opportunity to diversify "our economy away from real estate and Wall Street."
Cuomo also said New York lost out on an opportunity to further cement its status "as an emerging center for tech and was an extraordinary economic win not just for Queens and New York City, but for the entire region, from Long Island to Albany's nanotech center."

Nothing like a good game of “let’s you and her fight!”
Grabbing popcorn.
Corporate welfare by any other name would smell as foul.
You are right. Same with deblasio
Progressive NY is a hapless failure.
Bwahahahahaha
“put their own narrow political interests above their community, you can bet criminal Cuomo was getting some kickback THATS WHY HE’S PISSED
Let’s have a moment of silence to reflect on the billions of dollars that Cuomo’s inside real estate traders lost when Amazon gave the Big Apple the big finger!
Watching the local news coverage of the collapse of this deal, it appears the politicians posturing against Amazon really thought they’d eventually get the development/investment by Amazon without the tax incentives. Seriously, everyone seems shocked by the outcome, and is just working on spinning it to fit their agenda. Both the governor and mayor supported Amazon, and while the governor is blaming local politicians for the failure the mayor seems to be blaming Amazon.
Comments about corporate welfare are valid, though this deal must be seen in the context of both the development of the area itself as well as the city and state INCOME taxes involved. To get an understanding of how significant the latter are, remember that after the bailouts of 2007/2008, both the governor of NY and the mayor of NYC insisted the government let the banks pay employee bonuses with taxpayer bailout funds because both the city and state desperately needed their cut of that money through income taxes.
Plenty of people further west in NJ would have loved this development simply for the city sewage and gas lines it would provide to areas with neither - and no money to install them.
All involved in this debacle seem shocked that Amazon is withdrawing altogether; none seemed to think that was a possible outcome. They are putting a brave face on it, but they are shocked.
I hope she made him a Kwanzaa cake this past holiday season. #####
Who she? Stonewall Jackson-Lee?
No, all fields will be owned by the state, which will allow them to be used and maintained by the Workers' Communes so long as they toe the line.
Its not really a first-rate State.
No, the $3B incentives were all funded by the state of NY: $1.5B in performance-based subsidies, $1.2B and $0.3B (performance-based) from the state's economic development agencies. NYC would let half of the HQ2 property tax be designated to infrastructure improvements in the area. Amazon HQ2 would have generated $10B in state and local revenues over 20 years. In six years it would all be gravy for the state and infrastructure improvements would be in place. And local small businesses and cities would all have seen a boost as the HQ2 employees spend their income.
Anti-business socialist idiots screwed this up.
“People will be escaping there to seek out a better life in New Jersey.”
New Jersey?
Are you sure about that?
New Jersey.
I love the smell of schadenfreude in the morning, or in this case, at night.
Andrew needs to learn he is so over.
