I tend to travel at speeds that my car sounds comfortable at, mechanically speaking of course. My older cars sounded like 55 was their sweet spot and everything mechanical was copacetic.

Newer cars at 65 to 70 sound okay. But to be honest I feel that 70mph is a bit high. And I’m speaking strictly from a mechanical point of view.

So I usually travel at 65, I don’t care if the speed limit is 70 and people are traveling 79, once they break 80 in the state that I live in, it is reckless driving, and signs are posted stating such. So the 10 mile an hour over “rule” doesn’t pertain when the speed limit is posted at 70 miles per hour.

So I travel at 65, and my gas mileage is pretty good at that speed, and I don’t feel like I am in competition with the traffic around me. I’m in the right lane just puttering along to my final destination. I have always driven this way, and I have never had a moving violation, ever.

Oh, and I’m actually one of those jerks who does 25 in the neighborhood. Why? To be truthful I’ve had kids run out in front of my car on bicycles, chasing balls Etc and at night there’s people out walking their dogs or walking and there are no sidewalks in my neighborhood so I’m Justified, besides 25 is a really nice speed to travel at.

Ever since I got my concealed carry permit, I rarely get pulled over anymore.
The two times went normally, then turned into a, “How does it shoot for you,” conversation.
Lots of law enforcement in Colorado are gun folks. It was a pleasant experience.

It was the California plate. Californians don’t get the suspicion they are viewed with in the Midwest.

A buddy of mine was a OHP trooper. He was stopped on I-40 west of Little Rock for speeding. He handed the AR trooper his drivers license. In Oklahoma a troopers badge number is his DL number. The AR trooper didn’t seem to notice, so my buddy pointed out that he was a OHP officer. The AR trooper smiled, ripped the ticket off his pad and said,” well, I reckon you will know what to do with this.”

“So I travel at 65”.

Hopefully, you’re not one of those grumpy old guys who camp in the inside lane stacking up the flow....

“Hopefully, you’re not one of those grumpy old guys who camp in the inside lane stacking up the flow....”

Nope, I hangout in the right-hand Lane. Plus in Virginia they passed the law a couple of years back and it’s now called traffic impement, but there are still a lot of left hand lane slow pokes out there. Cops can’t regulate people who change lanes in intersections either so why should we expect them to regulate slow drivers in the left-hand lane?

If I am going on an interstate and it starts getting hilly and the trucks start slowing way down to make it up a hill...
yeah I’ll pass them, but I have been told that if you exceed the speed limit while you are passing you are also in violation of speeding and you could be pulled.

Like I said if my car is not in in The Sweet Spot I’m not going to exceed the speed limit except in emergencies and I have enough engine in my car’s to do that.

There is more to this story.
I think so too, if indeed it's true.
I don't believe I've ever driven a production car where both the speedometer and cruise-control UNDER reported the mph. They always OVER report a little; the manufacturers make 'em that way on purpose.

I’d like to think that both sides can’t be wrong, but one side of this argument has to be right.

First things first. Stereotypes don’t just pop into existence without any rhyme or reason. Jews love saving money, blacks love football, Japanese people love cartoons. And cops are power drunk a-holes.

The police and their fanatical supporters like to point out that this opinion is based on the VAST amount of “scumbag criminals” and the stereotype is created by worthless individuals. So basically, their stereotype of us is that we’re all criminals ready to spring from the darkness and get our shoot on.

It is NOT ok for us to think that they are bad people, but it is perfectly acceptable for them to accept that we are. The big difference is how we get this training. For the police, it is part of their official SOP to believe we are out to get them. For us, it’s in our media, our personal anecdotes and discussed around the dinner table.

Yes, there is a group of people who are wrong in this discussion. The police. If they are told that their job is so dangerous that everyone is out to get them, and they still do this job then they are at fault. Police are just the worst, by and large.

Of course there are exceptions. But stereotypes don’t work like that.

I’m moving to AR in a few weeks. Let me point out a unique observations from an outsider.

They follow the speed limits pretty consistently.
Everyone in Arkansas paces and races you. They’ll come up alongside and just drive your speed. They’ll slow down to do this if they are passing you, they’ll speed up when you pass them. It’s crazy ! It’s worse than NY.

That’s the only real problem that I see. Other than that, cops are everywhere and they didn’t jump out and follow me around like they do in the NE. I have a loud, tinted black truck that gains negative attention. They didn’t seem to care too much.

Ex brother-in-law was a cop in the ‘70s. Quit because he had developed the “cop attitude”. There were two types of people - perps and cops/relatives. I asked him what a perp was. Someone who had broken the law or would break the law. He ate with, went to bars with, and worked with cops. Dealt with criminals. He said all the cops in the department had the same view. I worked all night in a donut shop (cops sitting around talking all night) in the ‘60s. They had the same attitude, remember one saying he wanted some young punk to run so he could shoot him.
