Several Democratic senators said they would be fine with giving a future president a speedier path for nominees — but won’t do it for Mr. Trump.

They have no actual principles -- they are just childish.

“Make no mistake. The Republicans can change this, and will,” said Sen. Lamar Alexander, Tennessee Republican.

...ONLY if McTurtle says so.

Republicans just need to tell the Democrats that the next Democratic president can expect the same pace on nominations that Trump is afforded. If they object to this, ask them how they want to remedy the current situation.

The GOP controlled the Senate when Garland was nominated. That is far different then the minority stopping legitimate nominees.

I’m sick of hearing about Merrick Garland. After they forced Obamacare on the country in the dead of the night when no one on either side had actually read it they have nothing to complain about.

What McConnell did has been done many times before when the Senate is led by the opposite political party of POTUS and it is an election year.

Of the 159 nominations for Supreme Court Justice that presidents have submitted to the Senate for confirmation, the Senate has rejected only 12. The first rejection was George Washington’s nomination of John Rutledge to be Chief Justice in 1795; the last, Ronald Reagan’s nominee for Associate Justice, Robert H. Bork, in 1987.

In addition to rejecting nominees, the Senate has failed to approve 24 additional nominees by postponing confirmation, taking no action, or by acting in ways that have encouraged nominees to withdraw from consideration, as with Harriet Miers in 2005.

Nearly 60 percent of rejections have occurred when the president and a majority of senators have been members of opposing political parties. Nearly half of the failed conferrals were nominated in a president’s final year in office. One-third of failed appointments were nominations by presidents who had not been elected to office.

I’d almost bet my life savings if McConnell doesn’t enact it the Democrats will on the first day they retake control of the Senate.

Democrats acknowledged things have gone off the rails, but blamed Republicans for poisoning the well when they blocked one of President Barack Obama’s prominent picks, Judge Merrick Garland, from earning a seat on the Supreme Court.

Oh really? I'm pretty sure the Dems started hitting 'nuclear buttons' way before Garland was around!

I read stories like this and this to myself...this is not going to end well if the Dems get back in power.

***use the “nuclear option” to approve the changes on a majority vote.

...and then vote to put all the Dem senators in a smallish sailing craft and tow them into the Bermuda Triangle...

UIrts way overdue. The GOP Senate should have done this back in 2017.

The RNC called me. Immediately started off with the fake news media, the liberals, the Democrats, blah, blah, blah.
I said they’re not getting a nickel from me until the Republicans in Congress get behind the President’s agenda.
I said Mitch McConnell can start by letting the president make recess appointments to the courts! I said please relay the message to Rhonna McDaniels and Mitch McConnell.
