New Jersey residents could soon be hit with what Republicans are calling a "rain tax," if Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy signs newly passed legislation.
The bill, approved by the New Jersey Assembly and the Senate, would allow municipalities to create utilities that can collect fees from homeowners and business owners that have large paved surfaces, like driveways and parking lots. During storms, rainwater mixes with pollutants on those surfaces before running into sewers and drains. The funding from the fees could be used for upgrades to reduce the impact on the environment.

... as if there aren’t already enough reasons not to live in that state.
Here come the gravel parking lots...
When will they ever learn? Keep voting for the RATS to destroy the state, same as NY, CA. Il. etc.
” The funding from the fees could be used for upgrades to reduce the impact on the environment.”
Could be.
But will not be.
Guaranteed.
Not much different here in PA. I had to put $150k in water retention ponds in, on top of $70k 6ft deep & wide trenches around all buildings and greenhouses in my 20ac nursery/garden center/lscp contracting business, back in 1990.
PA apologized for making me do both; only one method of retaining water on the property was required. The formula back then was 3 sqft of hard surface = 1 cuft retention pond.
Azzholes in Harrisburg: DER, DEP, DOE, EPD, Army Corps Engineer, and EPA.
Congratulations New Joysey! You know what they say about dem ‘lections! LOL.
NJ’s unions need more money.
At the Governors office.....
Look at those clouds, boys! Ill be getting a new Escalade!
Have You Ever Seen Taxed The Rain?
Next will be a Methane Expulsion Tax better known as a Fart If You Must Tax. Will require a Fartometer installed on every one gas emitters.
I would blame all of my farts on my cattle, but their farts
are already under EPA scrutiny.
So, it is not a rain tax, it is a runoff tax.
Since rain is an act of God, there is an attempt to tax God.
Didn’t find the “taxed” update version, but it was good to hear the “rain” song again, after all these years.
Now, I got an earworm.
Time for some Peter Cetera & Chicago.
The socialists/commies/fascists/anarchist demonkkkRATs in NJ gov’t don’t believe in God, so He’s ‘fair game’, too. The ‘flush tax’ is also coming. ‘Chicken Tax’, too.
“Let me tell you how it will be
There’s one for you, nineteen for me
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxman
Should five per cent appear too small
Be thankful I don’t take it all
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah I’m the taxman
If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I’ll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I’ll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet...”
Don’t ask me what I want it for
If you don’t want to pay some more
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxman
Now my advice for those who die
Declare the pennies on your eyes
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxman
And you’re working for no one but me.
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah I’m the taxman
The Beatles
Good cover. I don’t have that.
“During storms, rainwater mixes with pollutants on those surfaces”
How many of those pollutants were caused by government sources? Or nearby highways, factories, etc?
MD knows how to spread the tax misery around, personally, residentially and commercially.
The Chesapeake Bay is in bad shape, with polluted ground and surface waters flowing downhill into it, and they think taxing everyone to death — like the Climate Change/Global Warming idiots — will cure the problem.
The “Save The Bay” Foundation extorts a LOT of money from MD and PA.
Awesome tune. Another good one and appropo is “Fixing A Hole”, dontcha think?
We have has a rain tax in the Cleveland area for a couple years.
