British opposition chief and chairman of the UK Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn reached out to a freshman Democrat congresswoman in the hopes of forming a left-wing trans-Atlantic alliance.
Corbyn called Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the 29-year-old self-described Democratic Socialist who won last Novembers election for the 14th congressional district in New York after she defeated 10-term incumbent Joe Crowley in the Democratic primary.
Ocasio-Cortezs surprised win propelled her almost overnight to celebrity status, turning her into one of the most popular figures in the left-wing of the Democratic party.
In a tweet late Sunday night, Corbyn revealed that he had called Ocasio-Cortez that night to propose an alliance with the New York congresswoman, citing their wide-ranging agreement on policies ranging from marginal tax rates to environmental protection and immigration.
Great to speak to @AOC on the phone this evening and hear first hand how shes challenging the status quo, tweeted Corbyn.
Lets build a movement across borders to take on the billionaires, polluters and migrant baiters, and support a happier, freer and cleaner planet.
Ocasio-Cortez responded shortly afterwards, saying she was honored to speak with the Labour leader.

This is collusion with asprinkle foreign government! She’s got to go!
(AOC) "Like, are you, like, that guy that likes, play James Bond? OMGOMGOMG!!!"
No! Keep her around! She’s all we have now that Lurch is in the private sector. Think of it. Cortez and Corbyn: Twice the stupid, and all the anti-Semitism.
—and we’ll toss the overripe fruit at Dem politicians.
Who the hell cares what two deranged Stalinists do and think?
Let them eat each others assholes if they want. On the Trump Train, we govern !
I just dont understand the fascination with Occasional Cortex. Obnoxious new guy outsider in the White House that overuses Twitter is bad, but the obnoxious new gal outsider in Congress that overuses Twitter is good? Wheres the logic?
Oh boy. Here come the gruesome twosome.
I love this, I hope they nominate her for President. Let the entire country see the kind of absolute moron the left is putting on a pedestal.
“If you can’t afford something, then just pay for it and you can have it!”
Like TOTALLY! Yes, observe the brilliance! She is our Messiah! All this time I could have had a 100 room mansion, a jet plane, my own golf course, a yacht, all I had to do was just pay for it AND I CAN HAVE IT!! Like TOTALLY!
I care. Think of the entertainment value since Disney fired Roseanne. These two are comic gold, a Bolshevik Mutt and Jeff, and the funniest part is that they’re series about everything.
Looks like a scene from a H.S. Play, not serious reporters and legislators.
Jeremy Corbyn is so anti-Semitic that nearly 40 percent of British Jews have said they would seriously consider emigrating if he became prime minister.
Let's see, George Soros is all about being a billionaire, he pollutes, he baits migrants - I wonder if they will both go after George Soros?
Water seeks its own level. In this case, sewage treatment water. Before treatment.
Donald Trump was elected because he promised two things the People want:
A secure Southern border
A health care plan that would cover everybody (no, I didn’t make that up).
We know now that the Congress is not going to allow the Southern border to be secured. It’s not in the interest of either party, and it won’t happen.
However, Congress, or at least the Democrats in it, are ready to produce a healthcare plan “that will cover everybody”.
People here are missing how important this is to normal people. It will be the biggest issue in the 2020 election.
The blind leading the stupid.
Wheres the logic?
