Mark Penn: Could the US end up like Venezuela? It might if we don't learn .. three critical lessons
Fox News ^ | Jan. 30, 2019 | Mark Penn

Every American should get behind the Trump administration’s efforts to free Venezuela and its 30 million people. Venezuelans have waited too long to be liberated from Nicolás Maduro – an illegitimate despot who has bankrupted and corrupted the nation.

Venezuela was once an oil-rich nation that could have lifted its people out of poverty and become a shining example of progress and development in Latin America. It was a vibrant democracy that had everything going for it.

I know because several decades ago I worked with two of Venezuela’s presidents, helping them understand the aspirations of their people through polls. The country enjoyed universal voting, a free press, and oftentimes a million people would turn out for a political rally.

...

Despite continued economic decline and dwindling support, Chavez’s hand-picked successor, Nicolas Maduro, won a term in the wake of Chavez’s death. During his term, the country became even more crime-ridden, lost 3 million people, faced widespread shortages of food and medicine, and some in the military turned to drug smuggling on a massive scale.

Given these conditions, the recent legislative elections produced a legislature with super majorities of the long-suppressed opposition. Maduro’s response was to hold an unscheduled fake national election, jam the Supreme Court, and try to defrock the legislature.

Facing death, the head of the National Assembly, Juan Guado, stood up last week and used what was left of the constitution to declare himself interim president until fair elections can be held.

...

People everywhere want results, not resistance.

...

The state actors backing Maduro include Russia, Syria, Iran, Turkey, China and Cuba. Some of them have invested billions in the regime.

I think the socialistic Venezuelans were content with Chavez and Maduro until they ran out of someone else's and their own money.-Tom

How do you lose 3 million people in a country of 30 million?

I was all over the internet warning everyone about Chavez and his Socialism.

And I was laughed at, mocked, made fun of and called a racist.

So now, I’m warning Americans about the Socialists trying to take us over.

And I’m being laughed at, mocked, made fun of and called a racist.

I’ve always thought that Latin America’s problems will all be seen in America before too long.

I agree.

The president of Mexico has declared the war against the Cartels to be over.

If Mexico under it’s Marxist president turns into a Venezuela, look out.

There are many scenarios where we could be inundated by people south of us.

[And I’m being laughed at, mocked, made fun of and called a racist.]

The Democrats, especially, will be saying you be crazy.

I know this because I see their abject fools supporting AOC over at Yahoo. Of course, they lick Barack’s boots, too.

I was warning about the dangers to the U.S. economy in 2007 and 2008. Yes, I even saw the effects after Katrina and the gas prices hit. I too, was blown off by most.

By the time they wake up, it will be far too late.

So I understand where you’re coming from.

Yes they will. That is for certain (that they will support socialism). Democrats will bring about the destruction of the United States of America. By multiple methods.

I am not sure how a compromise can be reached. Our side, the conservatives, want to halt the give aways, AND behead the healthcare monster.

The other side wants the exact opposite. This article is basically saying we will become ever more radical. Ie., it’s a positive feeback loop, like a turbocharger on a gasoline engine, and no wastegate.

It seems that the only thing we have to look “forward” to is civil war.

The USA population is 325 million plus. Some 10-20 million illegals who knows where.

What an odd choice of wording. Even more when you consider the organizers of these "caravans" are based out of Venezuela but very few "mojados" are from there.

I don't think the "usual suspects" are going to give up Venezuela without a fight.

The Honduran, Guatemalan .. invaders (paid for by George Soros & pals) are not heading for socialist Venezuela for good reasons - even though it is closer.

The Hondurans, etc. want free housing, welfare, food, healthcare, and other free stuff.

They know that Venezuela is another socialist catastrophe with no food, water, toilet paper ..

There is a reason they are called “Progressives”. They do not have to win every battle, but every battle they win gets them more socialism, and they never retreat on a win. Our side considers it a win if we get a compromise, because we saved SOMETHING, but we need to change our tactics. No more compromise … its our way or the highway. If we don’t, socialism is inevitable.

That’s my point. Mass migration is the 21st century form of warfare. Chavez gave Cuba,Russia,China and Iran a major foothold in S.America and I don’t think they’ll give it up without a fight.
