"Our employees are our priority, and we will communicate with them first."

The arrogance of this lie is breathtaking! Government Motors, the gift that keeps on giving...to Red China.

When Barra took over as chief executive of General Motors in January 2014, she became the first ever female to head an automobile manufacturer.[14] During her first year as CEO, General Motors was forced to issue 84 safety recalls involving over 30 million cars.[15] Barra was called before the Senate to testify about the recalls and deaths attributed to the faulty ignition switch.[16] Barra and General Motors also came under suspicion of paying for awards to burnish the CEO and corporation's image during that time.[17] The recalls led to the creation of new policies encouraging workers to report problems they encounter, thereby altering the company culture.[18] Over the course of her tenure as CEO, Barra has pushed GM as a company transitioning into the tech space pushing forward in the automated driverless car space with major acquisitions including Strobe, a startup focused on driverless technology.[19] Also in 2017 she pushed GM to develop the Chevy Bolt EV, beating rival Tesla in developing the first electric car priced under $40K with a range of 200 miles.[20] In 2017 Barra was the highest paid Detroit Three executive, with a total remuneration of $21.96 million.[1] In November 2018 Barra announced the closure of five North American plants and plans to lay of 14,000 workers.[21] Her decision was criticised by President Trump who threatened to removed the company's government subsidies in response.[21]

84 safety recalls??? Why is she even in a job? Like Carly Fiorina at HP, running that into the ground! Hey Look at me! I have boobs and a vagina and no other qualifications to run a company!

Pig faced looking friend of the obamas, Mary Barra, is purposely running the company into the ground to make Trump look bad and get union voters to dump Trump.

GM should have failed when it failed. Not propped up by us taxpayers. And I’ve never owned anything but GM cars in my life. My lastGM purchase was a 98 4x4 pickup. Which is still doing okay.

My next car/truck will NOT be a GM product.

GM will, forevermore, be known as: “Government Motors” as far as I’m concerned.

Gm was toast as soon as they bowed to Obama. Soon they will be looking for another Federal bailout.

Mary Teresa Barra is the Chairwoman and CEO of General Motors Company. She has held the CEO position since January 15, 2014, and she is the first female CEO of a major global automaker

This is BS. There is no way GM was that overstaffed and no way they have replaced all these people with new automation. Most all of this work is being moved offshore and they just don’t want to announce that.

As a free enterprise capitalist, I believe a company should be able to do what increases its bottom line for private or corporations.

However, I see this as obscene. "The company made the decision as part of a strategic move to free up $6 billion annually. That money will then be used to invest in new technology, including electric and self-driving cars as well as a ride sharing service."

Unions aside which I don't like, you have to ask how much is 4,000 employees costing them per year? Answer: No where near 6 billion and year.

This is the same company our tax dollars bailed out in the recession, IIRC. They will fire some 4,000 employees so they can continue to experiment with electric cars (their Volt failed) and "self-driving" cars that will take years to perfect and years for consumers to trust.

They also want to be the next Uber with a "ride sharing service"? If GM has enough 6 billion reserves to "free up annually", this is all kinds of wrong for their employees.

SCREW GM, I will never buy their product again if they follow through with this plan. I'm astounded that the Board of Directors thinks this good. They will lose more money in bad PR than they hope to "free up billions".

As a small business owner of 3 companies, I don't get GM's strategic position.

They need to design an electric Silverado.
With a compact multi fuel auxiliary powerplant for remote area charging and cold weather heating.
Many big rigs already have a similar unit, runs forever on a smsll amount of diesel, or natural gas.

And in related news, GM will be investing to built a starship like the Enterprise so the GM board can be beamed up on a moments notice. They understand that their new starship will be flying in the tail of a comet.

Boy, it sure is a good thing Obama shoveled tens of billions of dollars of taxpayer money at Government Motors huh? Otherwise, “thousands of jobs would have been lost” (they’d have declared chapter 11 bankruptcy and gotten out from under their ruinous UAW contracts).

Whereas now after the bailout they’re...ummmm.......

Wrong move - going electric - at the wrong time.

In five years with another economic recession look for another GM near bankruptcy. All because political correctness is now running the GM board.

FTA: invest in new technology, including electric and self-driving cars as well as a ride sharing service.

All losing things. More layoffs coming. Hope that includes the ceo and the board members.
