Democratic lawmakers and 2020 presidential candidates have largely avoided the quickly escalating national debate over late-term abortions prompted by state bills that would roll back those restrictions – and by controversial comments from supportive officials – as conservatives press party leaders to take a stand.
After Virginia Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam’s comments about a late-term abortion bill in his state sparked outrage this week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi claimed not to be following the issue.
“I just don’t know what he said,” she told reporters Thursday.
Other congressional Democrats likewise declined to comment to Fox News, winding up a two-day retreat on Capitol grounds saying the issue never came up.
Fox News found just one Democratic lawmaker who even knew what Northam had said – and was one of Northam’s predecessors as governor. Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine indicated his state’s current law should not be changed.
“Current Virginia law, which has been in place since the 1970s, I support and I don’t think it needs to be changed,” Kaine told Fox News.
The Virginia bill that kicked up the controversy this week already has been tabled. But the details and the way in which it was described by supporters raised concerns about how far states might go in the area of late-term abortions, as New York and other states already take action to loosen restrictions.

Va.Democrat Gov. Ralph Northam advocated for infanticide. He also selected his med school yearbook photos, the one with 2 men one in blackface the other in white KKK regalia. Ralph Northam said he was in the picture.
The most offensive to me was the Governor’s advocacy for Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger’s vision. She advocated death for Negro babies, poor white babies, handicapped babies, deformed babies. “Comfort Care” for babies born alive advocated by Gov. Northam is really infanticide.
Pro abortion supporters characterize abortions as women’s health choices.
If this is health care I shudder to think of Democrats plan for health care for the elderly, the physically and mentally handicapped and other groups Democrats feel are expendable.
Every dem running for office needs to disavow and apologize over and over again for the New York law and attempted law in Virginia.
The left is invested in the masses not really knowing what this current abomination involves from which most people would recoil in horror.
This and the baby parts issue have been dutifully covered up by a sycophantic media.

Silence can and should be used against them. We should be hearing about this long after November 2020. This is a rallying issue.
