BAMN was founded in Berkeley, California in 1995 by attorney Shanta Driver and fellow activist Luke Massie in response to a statewide proposal to ban race-based affirmative action in employment and higher education. Liberal observers have noted BAMN’s links to the Trotskyite Revolutionary Workers League (RWL).
