We have spent on average of 100 Billion a year in Afghanistan since 2001

The CIA poppy / heroin trade doesn’t just happen. It’s fertilized with US tax dollars. The CIA wins. The Congress wins. Well, two out of three ain’t bad.

Yo Mitch. If we’re going to rebuke the Islamic State, how ‘bout we start by throwing their asses off of Capitol Hill? Just a thought.

Ike was right. And George Washington was prescient. Political parties are a menace.

Good points, excellent actually, thank you.

I see now the vote to end debate was 68-23, That leaves 9 votes in abstention for ending debate.

It is possible that of the 68 votes to end debate there are some who will vote for the President, but likely not. They may have voted with the intention to end debate so they could vote with the President, but again likely not.

So your point that this a constitutional crisis is spot on ESPECIALLY in light of the fact that Congress never officially declared war. The military actions taken were ordered by GW Bush and Obama at their discretion without any formal declaration of war from Congress.

The War Powers Act has been ignored for decades. Technically Bush and Obama were in violation of the WPA but I suppose Congress’s continued military appropriations served as a de facto approval to continue.

Here we have the reverse situation in that Congress is refusing in a sense to allow defunding the military actions without a clear declaration. Members simply want an open tab to spend on warfare wherever, however.

It’s disturbing to see how Congress thinks a few thousand boots on the ground will cause a region to stabilize. It’s simply not realistic. The President just about two weeks ago ordered a drone strike of some ISIS members in Somalia killing about 60 of them without loss of innocent civilians according to reports. More than 40 such strikes were ordered in 2018 WITHOUT American boots on the ground. If boots on the ground are needed, the Ethiopian army has been involved in that conflict and they can provide them.

The US has drone and cruise missile ability to neutralize any ISIS concentration and intel ability to feed to friendly local armies in a region. American boots on the ground are NOT needed. I’m a vet, most in the Senate are NOT vets. Their votes are skewed by lobbyists who have financial motivations to involve American military in regions around the globe in neverending wars, the so-called neocons.

I remember not too long ago when rats protested FOR pulling out of war zones or going into them (Iraq, for instance). Now they are war mongers?

Can’t move quickly to do anything for American citizens, but sure can move with lightning speed to please their warmonger global donor owner masters.

An 18 year campaign is a “precipitous” withdrawal? Interesting

Senator Rand Paul made the same point yesterday. Going by Mitch McConnell's time frame, a hundred year war would be just too short for his liking.
Perhaps the honorable Senators would like to tell us how many years would be long enough for us to stay in Afghanistan.

But bringing tens of thousands of them here and bussing them to every corner of the country is just fine.

Sheesh - Let Putin / Assad have Syria with the stipulation they have to eliminate any threat to Israel or us from that direction — and if any threats are detected, we will help the Israelis target them, provide any weapons they want, etc. Similar deal (ability for them to fight back) for the Kurds, but add in long range support (cruise missile strikes, etc.)

Afghanistan is tougher due to long range strategic concerns with Iran. Neutralize Iran and we can tell the Afghans to fix their own problems. If terrorist training camps pop up, obliterate them.

take a prozac. I didn’t say any of that crap.

Take a look at the 29 agent FIB raid on Stone and then tell me we don’t live in Stalinist Russia. That’s double the amount of boots on the ground the USN used to take out Bin Laden, BTW.

LOL. You said this is “nothing” when it is not. It’s quite clear the intention here is to publicly undermine POTUS and the MAGA agenda we voted for across a broad range of foreign policy issues. POTUS has spoken directly before about undermining from US Senate Republicans and that it is not helpful. So I’m honestly not sure why you continue carrying water for the utterly useless GOP Senate.

it is nothing. it's a non-binding senate resolution hoping to talk about thinking about doing essentially nothing on some undefined day in the future.

this nothing about nothing was turned into front page news by the likes of NYT and WaPo because attacking DJT with lies is what they do.

. . . and people like you who are losing their sh*t about nothing are helping them.

LOL. There you go again. “People like me” includes President Trump. He’s been quite clear in the past that GOP Senate interference in his foreign policy is not helpful. And that was just useless GOP Senators running their mouths. This is a great escalation to that.

it’s so cute when delusional nobodies claim ownership of DJT.

so, if the senate is his enemy, then why did he campaign so hard for them for months and months?

can’t answer that one, can you?
