Why invade Venezuela? Just let it topple on its own. The people of a nation need to set themselves free - nobody can do it for them. Haven’t we learned that yet? Sure we can help but only peripherally but no military. This is something the people of Venezuela need to figure out and fight for - we don’t live there and ultimately really don’t care.
I think the end goal is to keep Venezuelans in Venezuela.

We have a very close military relationship with Colombia.
5,000 troops would need considerable staging and logistics and weapons and armor and artillery, etc. The Venezuelan civil war is not going to wait that long.
We can send in a Marine Corp MEU or two very quickly that would quickly secure the key areas and airfields.
Our Naval and Air Force airpower would quickly degrade any resistance.
Venezuela is moving most of its armor to the Colombian border.
The best squeeze is financial, Maduro won’t be able to pay the military and this will be over quickly.
