Less than three weeks into office and for Republican U.S. Sen. Rick Scott Washington is shaping up to be as dysfunctional as he feared.
So while pushing for the current Congressional immigration and border security deal to include people in DACA and temporary protected status program, plus a border barrier, Scott is not expressing high hopes.
Its going to be hard, Scott said Monday, shortly before meeting with a group of Hispanic political activists.
It followed his first address from the floor of the U.S. Senate, which also was about Puerto Rico, and his bill amendment seeking $600 million in additional post-Hurricane Maria aid.
On Friday Congress and President Donald Trump just ended the most extended government shutdown in modern times when they approved a three-week funding package to run through Feb. 15. But the same issues, chiefly surrounding the Republicans and Democrats visions for border security, leave the process haunted by the prospect of another shutdown on Feb. 16 if another deal isnt stuck.
Without using the word preferred by Trump, wall Scott preferred the phrase physical barrier Floridas junior said Senator said Congress needs a barrier approved for parts of the southwest border with Mexico but also needs immigration reforms to assure secure status for young people in the Deferred Action Childhood Arrivals program and the TPS program for refugees from countries such as Haiti.
Weve got to have a permanent fix for DACA. Weve got to have a permanent fix for TPS. And we have to have a permanent fix for border security so we dont go through this every year, Scott said, adding that his idea for border security means, Its going to be technology. Its going to be people. Its going to be barriers. Different parts of the border require different things.

Scotts going more RINO again.
He wants DACA made permanent, not just three years.
Then Trump will own the insane DACA and the Dems walk free
Watching his performance as Governor this is exactly what I expected. It seems he has no ability to stand-up to lobbying pressure from grievance groups.
Can’t wait for DACA 2. Equality before the law my ass
Too stupid to understand that rewarding bad behavior gets you more bad behavior.
Great governor, but he got over it.
Deport every single illegal alien.
Hey Rick YOU DIDN’T WIN BY THAT MUCH, trader.
Scott is additional proof that elections no longer work for white, middle class folks.
Keep up the crazy talk and the invasion will never stop
DACA = Deport All Criminal Aliens.
Why a Republican hit piece?
What is so hard about deporting illegal aliens? First, implement e-Verify and root them out of the workplace. I seriously think that simple step will solve most of the “interior enforcement” issues. Then, end TPS, send those folks home. They should thank us for the assistance and leave gracefully. DACA, bonafide kids from 2008 and prior should be given some consideration but only on condition that their illegal families leave and go home. My biggest fear is that they will write this to be just the latest installment of a continuing nightmare saga that sees every kid and young adult now in the US or arriving as future DACA recipients.
I’ll still take him over the Democrat, especially if he supports Trump’s judges.
As to DACA, we just have to hope that Trump holds firm - if he does, there still won’t be enough Republicans to override his vetoes.
“Then Trump will own the insane DACA and the Dems walk free”
President Trump has stated, even during campaign, he wanted to do something for the DACA “kids”.
Trump fixing it, would show that the Republicans fix real problems and Democrats just talk about problems.
And President Trump would set the rules as well, DACA only available to ones with jobs/going to college/never convicted of a felony/crime.
Full wall/barrier, honestly I don’t care what it is called, as long as it is tall and keeps out illegals in trade for DACA kids of good standing, I have no problems with that. President Trump gets credit for fixing a problem that Obama created.
TPS should be ended and people need to either apply for citizen ship (some cases had up to 30 years to do this) or get out. I wonder they like their status because they don’t have to pay all the taxes that we do and that is why they keep the TPS status.
Now Rick Scott needs to also throw in mandatory e-verify into this as well. And crack down on employers using illegal labor.
We had immigration reform.
Enforce the law President Reagan signed
A DACA fix would be easier if naturalized citizens could NOT bring their families into the US. As it stands, once these “children” are Americans, they will bring in their parents who broke our laws and their unemployable grandparents, all of whom will become immediate dependents. Get rid of that crap now.
1. It must give a temporary protected status that leads to permanent residency, not citizenship.
2. It must include an end to chain migration (otherwise there is no point in treating DACA "kids" as anything other than full-blown U.S. citizens).
Did he get a call from Koch brothers?
