Over a month into the longest partial government shutdown in history, President Trump remains determined to make good on his promise to build a border wall to protect U.S. national security, while the Democrats remain staunchly opposed. President Trump has the opportunity to bypass Democrat opposition by drawing on unobligated balances to fund the border wall, effectively precluding a national emergency declaration and allowing for the government to reopen.

Author didn’t explain the idea. Just quoted the law/procedure. Made to think it’s easy.

The usurper ‘Resident figured out how to come up with $150B, and hand over to an arch enemy. We cried bloody murder for good reason, yet it still went thru.

By analogy, if 10% of that money is drummed up by a real President, we can expect the left to go bonkers, yet it can and must still go thru.

In the latter case, the left goes bonkers for no good reason, as the cause is just.

The left should NOT get their way in both cases.

In 2006 then President Bush signed a bill providing $50 Billion for a border wall. President Trump can use that!

I think that is Trump’s game plan knowing Dems will never approve a dime for the wall and that this 3 week committee has no way in heck of reaching an agreement. The shutdown was
politically not working to get the wall money. So when Dems refuse to reach an agreement, underscore they want open borders, declare a national emergency and try to get DOD to build it. Dems will forum shop for a 9th circuit liberal hack judge to get an injunction, and it will be appealed to the Supreme Court where Trump is hoping conservative majority will let him proceed.

Law doesn’t matter here. ANYTHING Trump does to fund the wall will begin the impeach ment screaming. Just do it.

I have lost track of how many articles I’ve read about President Trump being able to pay for the wall just by doing this or that....honestly, if the poor battered president could do it, I have no doubt in my mind that the wall would be well underway. How can all these people know so much more than the president?

Thanks for this informative article. It’s so much better than the barf alerts, celebrity opinions, and other leftist propaganda that makes its way on to FR.

Trump has said he’s going to build the wall one way or another, and this would be another option.

As Sarah Sanders has said, it’s just a matter of whether the Democrats want to get something in return.

A judge cannot block an emergency
declaration. Congress can vote to end it,
but that would take a 2/3 majority in
both the house and Senate. And I believe
Trump can veto that vote if Congress
doesn’t pass legislation to fix the
emergency. Where the president can be
sued is from a landowner if the government
tries to seize his property thru eminent
domain as the landowner would have standing.

Sure there will be some problem areas such as recalcitrant landowners — just build around them and patrol for now.

I just found this. But from maps I’ve
of existing barriers on the border,
some are set back quite a ways from the
Rio Grande.

From the WIKI...
The Roosevelt Reservation is a 60-foot (18 m) strip of land on the United States side of the United States-Mexico Border under the jurisdiction of the United States Federal Government. It was established in a 1907 Presidential Proclamation (35 Stat. 2136) by Theodore Roosevelt in order to keep the land “free from obstruction as a protection against the smuggling of goods between the United States and Mexico”
