This country can’t survive as a 50-state entity. It’s far too divided now. Great nations have formed and later divided throughout history. A peaceful transition to a two or three-region division is going to have to be sought and achieved. Liberal states led by the heavily populated behemoths of CA and NY don’t want to coexist peacefully with the conservative bastions of this country; they want to destroy and rule them with an iron fist.

America of the 1950s is over and done with; there’s no going back.

Secession is one thing. Getting all the rats to move to the states that secede will be much harder but if they don’t they will slowly turn all states into rat states because they multiply like, well, rats.

I honestly think our only chance to avoid civil war IS secession. Some whole states need to go. Some states themselves need to be broken up. I know in my own native Florida, Greater Miami might as well be South New Jersey combined with Latin America. North Florida is the heart of Dixie. These two will never agree about anything. Its better that they separate. Everybody will be much happier that way. Its the same in several other states (eg the Left Coast from the rest of Washington, Oregon and California...Chicago from the rest of Illinois, Occupied Northern Virginia from the rest of Virginia, etc etc).

What the Founders created was a voluntary union based on consent. The whole thing was an experiment. It was never intended to be a giant prison that shackled people together who have totally different world views AND one in which power is highly centralized - ie what it is now. That is a guaranteed recipe for an all out fight to see who gets to impose his worldview on others. It cannot be otherwise. So we either radically reverse the centralization of power that took place over the last 150+ years or we need to go our separate ways. Otherwise I fear there will be a bloodbath followed by lots of oppression.

Hawaii, unlike all other states, was an independent nation with diplomatic recognition from many other states, for decades, prior to incorporation into the USA.

People in Texas would take exception to that.

A functional country defends its borders and has a rational immigration system providing for the country’s needs and interests

A functional country has the capacity to identify traitors and prosecute treason

A functional country has a tariff-based tax system relieving its citizens of the burden of income-tax

A functional country has a military capable of providing for the defense of its borders and of international trade routes

A functional country has a clean election, not disenfranchising its citizens

Consequently a functional country has a bond market the envy of the world and credit “good as gold”

When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them...

The things that connects us are shared principles. Without those, we cannot have a stable society, country, or government. I'd argue that even through the 1990s (Clinton/Gingrich) there were shared principles that elected officials and people could return to for debate and compromise when we disagreed.
But we no longer have shared principles. Or those which are shared are such low priority compared to other principles both sides want that they are meaningless.

In addition, language is based on a foundation of beliefs that include government/social principles and religion. So the 2 sides today don't even share a language that allows us to communicate ("racism" means something very different when heard by "the right" or "the left". The same with phrases like "the wall").

Principle #1 in the preamble to the Declaration of Indepence is still as necessary as ever yet both parties actively work against it and the people withhold consent unless their party is in charge:
Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed

We either need to come to a new agreement on principles, or "dissolve the political bands". As it stands much of the Declaration of Independence could be submitted to DC without change to "declare the causes which impel them to the separation". A few causes no longer apply, and some even more significant ones could be added. Change is coming. It's a matter of when and how. The current situation is not sustainable and it can't be explained much better than Jefferson did in the original Declaration of Independence. I'd urge every elected official to read it daily.

With the declarations of sanctuary, the governor of California has already seceeded.

The President should invade California with US Army troops, capture the entire government and downgrade the state to federally controlled Territorial status. In so doing, the entire congressional and senate delegations would cease to exist. The territorial border can be placed under firm militry control .
