Has business finally woken up to the enormous challenges posed by climate change? This year's World Economic Forum provides some hope.
Climate was a major theme in Davos, where panel discussions on everything from global warming to ocean sustainability and biodiversity drew large crowds.
Talk is well and good, but there was widespread recognition in Davos that real change won't happen without action.
For experts here, that means corporate and government policy reforms. Many speakers acknowledged progress won't be made until the economics change.
"There are still fossil fuel subsidies from G7 countries - that's ridiculous," said Rachel Kyte, special representative of the UN Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy.
"Why we are subsidizing something we know is killing our children, poisoning them and affecting their ability to learn? That's beyond me," she added.

Davos Guy 1: “Let’s see...shall we talk about taxing the bejesus out of the peasants to fight phony ‘global warming’? Or shall we talk about taxing us 3% our net worth every year forever?”

CNN is beyond clueless.
We need a descriptor to adequately categorize a group of people for whom even first grade science is a sure eliminator.
For the people at Davos, the term “climate change action” means trillions of dollars moving from one group to another. They are all for making that action happen and figuring out how to get a piece of it. They don’t care one bit about “climate change” - only about legislation that can result in some of the “action” ending up in their bank account.
A few years ago Warren Buffett said (paraphrased) “my shareholders could sue me for fiscal malfeasance if I DID NOT build wind farms. It’s $400 million in profit from government subsidies even if they never generate energy”. That’s what the people in Davos are hoping for.
Yeh, think of the money we can make by scamming the ehtire world! Look how much money Al Gore made!!
It seems odd that they would be discussing Global Warming at a ski resort in Switzerland in January. How out of touch can you get?
How clueless these titans of business are! Instead of the Fake Climate Crisis, they should be looking at the growing Populist tide sweeping through several countries and reading about what happened to the aristocrats in the French Revolution.
Control of the Peasants is now the talk of Davos.
Stupidity is killing our children. It’s a cycle boys and girls.
1,700 private planes brought folks to Davos. Wouldn’t it be sweet if the winds got so high that they had to stay an extra week or so.
The actual theme for this year is “Globalization 4.0”. So it looks like to tool to do this will be climate crap.
