Democrats could fulfill Trump's request for $5.7 billion for border security with technological tools such as drones, X-rays and sensors, as well as more border patrol agents. I'm okay with this. Our sensors need some sort of support or stand to mount them. Make that support 2,000 miles long, 40 feet tall, and solid concrete and steel. Just start with $57B in funding instead of just $5.7B.

The president made them an offer they could not accept, so they went around the stonewalling Nancy Pelosi (fatally wounding her position) and made a counter offer he cannot accept. Hoorah!
The negotiations have finally started!
Only, they have admitted that the money doesn’t really matter, nor does the idea of securing the border. They just don’t want to call it a wall, which would give Trump a big win and they can’t allow that.
But they are proving and admitting to the voters that their arguments and failure to fund the government are based on nothing but Nancy’s pure dumb political stubbornness.
We are making progress. The president just needs to let them save a little face and let them ease this over the finish line and reopen the government. Then we can all go home happy, except Nancy. She’s done.

Because “Technology” can be easily and quietly turned off by the next DemonRat Regime. A Wall? Not so much.

A wall is a deterrent. When all the RATS remove the fences at their homes and go with only technology to protect themselves, then maybe they have an argument. Sling shots are still good for taking out giants.

He could take the deal and find the money for a "wall" elsewhere. Go back to 2006 when everyone voted for a wall aka barrier and print it every day, day after day.
But take DACA off the table and the other program.
To: Jim Robinson
Maybe high powered lasers that are programmed to take out anything in a half-mile “Hot Zone” along the whole border....

Yes to removing DACA, No to giving up on the wall. A virtual wall is nothing.

Of course they do.
The sun is hot. Water is wet.
Fact is, we need both aspects technology and a physical barrier applied in unison to the border wall. one or the other will not be enough.

While I may agree....it would only show that "money" was not the issue and that a virtual wall has to be designed so it would be years before it could take place.
Of course the Dems are assuming that Trump will not have a second term at which point, they can just sit on the money.

Waste of Money.
We need concrete and steel. Not Chinese electronics stitched together with Indian software.

Perfect! Nancy made a fatal mistake to make it personal. Her position does have some political power, but she’s about used it all up and has nothing to show for it. For the President, nothing is personal, it’s just business, The RATs have made a terrible start and they look like a bunch of vindictive losers who are still fighting about the 2016 Election, and the voters are not blind to what they are doing. They will compound their opening mistake by serial, mindless “investigations.” Just sorry we have to wait 24 months to get back to recapturing the Country in earnest again.
God Bless Donald Trump. Without him America would have a dark future.

Partner, I do not think she will even last more than 2 years as the Speaker. Nancy was one of the worst Speakers ever in 2006 and now she will be even worst than 2006 as the Speaker of the People's house.
We live in Texas and we have seen the damage that uncontrolled Illegal Immigration can do to our everyday lives.
We need a 30' High Wall on our Southern Border and we have been waiting a long thirty-three (33) years to get something done at our Southern Border.
To: Jim Robinson
A "technological wall," is not an alternative to a physical wall. Ours is the only border in the world between a First World and a Third World country. A physical border is necessary. Otherwise, 'enforcement' is nothing more than providing a chaperone and a ride.
As for not being willing to negotiate until the government is open, it seems they're negotiating now. They're just not willing to secure the border.

The main purpose of the wall is to protect the US from its own politicians. Excellent.

I hope they do this, because the only argument they’ve been making that resonated at all with independents was that $5.7 billion was money that could be used for other things.
But now they are saying “Sure, we don’t care if we spend $5.7 billion, it just has to be for things the DHS says won’t help, rather than the things they say will help”.
I don’t know how they would sell that, or then justify keeping people out of work. “I’m not being paid, but at least we aren’t wasting money” is a slightly less onerous thing than “I’m not being paid because the democrats just can’t stand the idea of Trump getting a wall”.
