They have been our allies in ending the great evil called ISIS. There is no mistake about that.

I’m quite sure that Trump would love to be out of the Middle East. He has acted to move in that direction by ending ISIS. Kurds have been the vehicle of success at that. And this has the potential to allow a regional understanding that would allow our exit. And a shot at some sense of stability there.

It is time to end the slaughter and allow them to rebuild. All the players know it, but they all have different “agendas”.

If Turk MiT was in fact the force behind the 4 US dead in Manbij, it needs to be exposed. I think it is likely true.

If true, will it ever be exposed to the public? Doubt it.

Thanks, I had not heard that. Pompeo is good at whatever he does. That is why he was selected as SOS. He has the background to understand the conflicts and is a strait arrow as far as I can see.

I consider CNN and Politico as a sorry source of any truthful info.

Making peace is a difficult thing. In many ways, it is emotionally much easier to kill or die, than it might be to concede or forgive. But even in some of history’s most extreme cases, people have done it.

The Japanese Empire was truly extreme, with widespread willingness to commit suicide for their cause, and near universal willingness to commit atrocious war crimes against unarmed civilians and prisoners. The Emperor described coming to terms with the Americans as enduring the unendurable. But the results have been spectacular - far better than almost anyone dared predict at the time.

Genocide after genocide throughout history, people have found a way to put it behind them.

The Dalai Lama once recounted that in his job he got to meet truly remarkable people - the greatest of the yogis and ascetics from the monasteries and caves of the Himalayas. He said that he met people who had developed truly exceptional abilities - like forgiveness.

There are real tactical and military concerns that must be addressed, but at some point a spiritual threshold has to be passed to get beyond a state of war. I am not recommending being naive about security assurances, but at some point, you have to agree to give up your active hostility and commit to leave the other to live in peace.

The time may not be ripe, but such a real possibility could help ripen it, as circumstances change. How could Turkish concerns about another decade of terrorist attacks be assuaged? That must be messaged, or the specter of the past terrorist atrocities will continue to unify Erdogan’s domestic opponents behind him.

“Pompeo is good at whatever he does”

First in his class at West Point.

That is a bigger thing there, than it is even in Ivy League colleges, and tests aspects of a person beyond their academic and political ability to schmooze their professors. It is an epic quality cut.

Actually though, I suspect that a Senator Pompeo might seek to play up his loyal relationship with President Trump, in hopes of inheriting his coalition of supporters.
