Most major news networks basically have obituaries of notable people already in the can. This is the result of the pressure to be first with a breaking story.

These obituaries and tributes are constantly kept updated Wiki-style and are always ready to go at a moment's notice.

Wiki-style

When I hear that a notable person died I also go and check wikipedia. It could only be minutes after the announcement and usually wikipedia already has been updated. They are fast (if not always accurate).

Note before anyone jumps and says wiki is slanted towards the left and there is a lot of fake information embedded with true information. Perhaps all true, but I usually just check wiki when I want a general background on a subject.
