The GOP doesn’t want a wall either. They won’t support him using the military or declaring a national emergency. POTUS is going to have to cave eventually because of that.

Could be. Or maybe he is just making them an offer they can’t refuse. Trump has been hinting all along that DACA was on the table. Democrats will be sunk if they don’t accept it or something close to it.
Not sure I’m up to date, but I have stuck in my mind that total cost to secure the border will be $25B. I don’t think I’d settle for $5.7B for just one year of funding. Secure funding for $5.7 per year for five years. Then we can talk.

When the Supreme Court finally gets around to deciding that it is actually legal for The President to cancel an illegally instituted program, they will be even more naked.
Hopefully this will happen soon.
Personally I could live with this compromise should the other side decide to take it.

Trump is extending the Democrats an enormous concession, if true, While fully realizing that they won't accept it. Stopping the wall is more important to them. They are OBSESSED with stopping the wall.
When they insist it will never be built and reject the terms of the offer, even more citizens are going to support Trump. At least, I hope that's the situation. It can't be said that he isn't giving them a way to get out of this mess.
