The Archbishop of York tweeted out this prayer. A reminder that no matter how old, or what station of life we're in, we are always on the cusp of eternity and must make our peace with God.

@JohnSentamu Almighty God, the Fountain of all Goodness,We humbly beseech thee to bless Philip Duke of Edinburgh: Endue him with thy Holy Spirit; enrich him with thy Heavenly Grace; prosper him with all happiness; and bring him to thine everlasting kingdom, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

It's very hard to tell someone in their 90s that they can no longer drive. They don't want to give up their independence.

Well, I’m not far behind the Prince in age and stand for him. Age doesn’t cause accidents. In this case the sun blinded him. That happens to people of any age. You go Phillip!!!

Well, I’m still driving into town to church and to shop, and I’m 83. That’s 12 miles each way. And I drive through town over to the hospital for blood tests, another 5 miles or so.

When I was a teen and early 20s, I did a little NASCAR racing, and I still know how to drive, and do it carefully. Also say a prayer each time I start off, that I won’t have an accident or hurt anyone else.

No damage to my car for four or five years now, and most earlier damage was getting scraped while in the supermarket parking lot, and the like.

I don’t know the details, but the Prince’s accident sounds like something that might happen to anybody, whatever age.

When they pulled him out, he said, “I’m alive, I’m alive! Thank God”. When told he was very lucky to survive the crash, he replied, “What crash?”

It was hard enough getting my mother in law off the road at 94. I cannot imagine getting a freakin’ Prince of England off the road.

I am glad everyone is alright. But damn.

My favorite Brit. Did I tell you about the time, in my early 20s when I and a friend accidently stormed a poolside meeting he was attending on an old girlfriend's family estate here in the U.S.? . Long story, but he waved to me. :-)

Lovely chap! But yea, I'm thinking... take his keys.

I doubt that CBS wants anyone to be able to drive. They have to start somewhere, and this gets them publicity.

Maybe he wants his other hip replaced. He just had one of them done in April 2018, which only shows that babies like Alfie Evans gets thrown in the trash, but a 96 year old Royal can get a hip replacement without question or restrictions.

Any FReeper saying this old gent shouldn’t drive on his own land - is not worthy of the title FReeper - and might be a ??ssy.

I think it’s a great story.

“Prince Philip’s car crash sparks questions about why the 97-year-old was driving”

The question is, did Prince Philip know why he was driving?

My dear departed dad (ex Green Beret Lt Col) was the same way, right up until the end. Headstrong as an old boar.

If he’d lived any longer, we would have been forced to take his keys. Fortunately, it never came to that.
