Why did he say Abilio? Is that Acosta’s real name or is this some sort of slang?

According to Wikipedia, Abilio is indeed Acosta's first name.

Note: I don't say "According to Wikipedia" because I think it's true, but because there may be some doubt as to whether it is true.

It's both Acosta's real first name AND slang. Literally “able” or “capable” in Spanish, but not very popular because it is so often used sarcastically. No wonder Acosta prefers to go by “Jim!”
