@scottbudman

#Update: San Jose says it will move forward with a plan to pay the salaries of about 500 TSA employees at @FlySJC during the government shutdown. The money would be an interest-free loan to be payed back after the government re-opens.

Uh, I don't know under what authority the city has to do this. I bet some watchdog org will file an injunction to stop this. This city is in now a bank?

Silicon Valley. Plenty of spare coin there.

Pay it back? No way (San) Jose!

You’re about to find out what it really means to be a liberal.

This will open a massive barrel of worms.

That is what I’m thinking. I don’t remember the city offering loans to its own citizens who got laid off or were in dire straits for other reasons.

This will open a massive barrel of worms.

If they go that far, they can just hire private security.

Not unless San Jose secedes from the United States. Federal Law requires TSA and TSA alone does security screenings.

Unless the TSA subcontracts out the work to private companies, a la SFO:

Yeah California messes up on a lot of things but they got one thing going for them and that’s Silicon Valley.

Can I get payed, too?

Younger guys focus on getting layed, but payed is better as you age.

Or, “Naut. a. (trans.) To let out (a rope or chain) by slackening it, to allow or cause to run out.” Is San Jose going to let them pay out the rope in payment?

Seems like a great time to disband the TSA altogether - this conglomeration of people who would otherwise be asking us if we want fries with our order only exists because of the 9/11 attacks. Since then, there's been zero evidence that they've prevented any terrorist actions at all, and plenty of evidence that guns and knives can be brought onto planes past their groping hands.

One of Bush's dumbest moves was signing the bill creating the TSA a couple of months after 9/11.

They’re more likely to get bit when it comes time for them to pay it back - I don’t see a legal/moral problem with a city doing this since they know the workers will get back pay and it may help their city run smoother...no love for them but can’t see the problem.
