You make a very good point about charging for blogs and vanities. Years ago I suggested that no one be permitted to start a thread unless they were a contributing member of Free Republic.

Allow anyone here the opportunity to reply to a thread, but to post one? You have to pay a nominal monthly fee. JR shot that idea down. He has his reasons why. But I thought then, and think now it’s a good idea.

Publius and I are always talking about a "Vanity Tax" particularly for those here who abuse Jim's graciousness.

Yes, we have serial Vanity Posters Abusers who sometimes post up to 3 Vanities in a single day! Talk about being self-important!

As you know, the vast majority of Vanities are no more than commentary that could easily be posted onto a legitimate posted article already running on the forum, but the Vanity Poster decides his or her comment merits its own thread!

Like nullandvoid asked, "what if we all did this?" Indeed! The only way to stop Abusers is to shame them!
