Democrats introduce bill to hike federal minimum wage to $15 per hour

Democrats introduced a bill Wednesday to gradually raise the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour, a long-shot plan that comes as the party tries to bill itself as a champion of the working class.

The proposal to hike the U.S. wage floor from the current $7.25 will likely fail in the GOP-held Senate even if it gets through the Democratic-controlled House. However, the new House Democratic majority sees the measure as a message that it wants to lift low-wage workers and boost the economy — and an effort to focus on its policy priorities amid the longest government shutdown ever.

The Raise the Wage Act, backed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and several declared or prospective 2020 Democratic presidential candidates, would hike the minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2024 through annual increases.

The push for a higher federal floor comes as numerous states and localities hike their minimum wages - even in red states such as Arkansas and Missouri. Fast-food workers and groups such as Fight for $15 spearheaded advocacy for a $15 per hour minimum wage around the country.

Meanwhile, the National Restaurant Association cautioned against a minimum wage hike to $15 per hour. If Congress decides to "drastically increase operating costs then these small businesses will be forced to hire fewer people, reduce hours, or even close their doors," said Shannon Meade, the organization's vice president of public policy and workforce.

Restaurants already operate on a profit margin of under 3%. The only way this works for sit down restaurants is to do away with tipping and add a 20% gratuity to each bill.

A law should be passed preventing the RATS from wasting taxpayer money on fantasy dreams like this. Even if it passes the Senate, a dubious proposition at best, President Trump will veto it.

If so, more low-wage workers will become unemployed...

There should be no federal minimum wage. If it’s not enumerated in the Constitution, the law is unconstitutional.

Heroes to all those who haven’t yet figured out that this accomplishes absolutely nothing but fuel inflation.

They should raise it to $10 million. Then take 70% of it.

A hike in the minimum wage is needed to induce general wage inflation necessary to allow the plantation slaves to pay for Obama care.

The water went under that bridge almost 200 years ago...

Offer an amendment to make it $50 per hour, which will force the Democrats to make the argument against their own proposition. When that fails, make it $25 and make tehm doo it again.

Meanwhile, go into teh poorest neighborhoods and explain that the Democrats are TRYING to prevent them from working and getting out of poverty. (Because it’s true.)

Any minimum wage is fascism. And it is simply price inflationary. Of course, they want to monetize the debt, so here we go. Where’s Jimmy Carter when you need him?

By the rule of 72, if inflation is 7%, the national debt will be halved in about 10 years

A hike in the federal minimum wage would cause an estimated two million jobs to be lost and hit small businesses the hardest........then the left would blame Trump for the loss.
