That was the moment that Pete Townshend decided to pretty much make The Who a part of his life again, after swearing it off back in the 80s. Even losing Ox didn't stop them.
Then you never saw them live. Seeing them in concert completely reshaped my view of The Who. No one rocked harder.
No one.
After watching that performance, my then wife (no rock fan) turned me and asked, "How can they be so good?"
Why did you leave out "By Numbers"? That's a great album as well. "Slip Kid" is a fantastic song.

I kept it a five year creative period comparison. Who By Numbers is a GREAT LP but it was two years after Quad. It is probably my third favorite studio LP after Who’s Next and Quadropehnia.
A true transition LP, very thought provoking. Red Blue and Grey. How Many Friends and However Much I Booze are all-time favorites. The remastered / remixed version which adds bonus tracks is a must for no other reason than the live version of the Ox’s “Dreaming from the Waist. If you want to hear a Bass Player drive a song LIKE on a six string lead this is it.

If only you could see his fingers up and down the neck of that bass!
Come back to the USA to up their body count?
