El Chapo Trial: Former Mexican President Peña Nieto Took $100 Million Bribe, Witness Says

Former Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto took a $100 million bribe from international drug traffickers, according to a witness at the trial of Joaquín Guzmán Loera, the infamous crime lord known as El Chapo.

The stunning testimony was delivered Tuesday in a New York courtroom by Alex Cifuentes Villa, a Colombian drug lord who worked closely with Mr. Guzmán from 2007 to 2013, when they were hiding from the authorities at one of the kingpin’s remote ranches in the Sierra Madre mountains.

“Mr. Guzmán paid a bribe of $100 million to President Peña Nieto?” Jeffrey Lichtman, one of Mr. Guzmán’s lawyers asked Mr. Cifuentes during cross-examination.

“Yes,” responded Mr. Cifuentes.

The bribe was delivered to Mr. Peña Nieto through an intermediary, according to Mr. Cifuentes.

While other witnesses at Mr. Guzmán’s trial in Federal District Court in Brooklyn have testified about payoffs from traffickers to the Mexican police and public officials, the revelations about Mr. Peña Nieto were the most egregious allegations yet. If true, they suggest that corruption by drug cartels had reached into the highest level of Mexico’s political establishment.

And you wonder where Democrats get all of that seemingly endless election money?

If he paid that kind of a bribe, and he’s in US custody, Pena Nieto will be watching his back for the rest of his short life.

*Facepalm* - what are they babbling about - it's always been that way, just nobody talks about it.

Plato or plomo - bullet or silver.

What? La Mordida is customary in Mexico. People take under the table.

If a drug cartel boss offers you $100 million, you don’t say “no.”

In Mexico nothing gets done without a payment. You need something done, you pay extra.

That’s the way its always been.

I would be more surprised to learn he or Fox did not take massive bribes. This is why they don’t want a wall.

You know the alternative with politicians gunned down there. Who’s going to protect them. Uncle Sam?

You must be kidding!

What was the JD doing during the Zero years that they didn’t know about EPN stashing $100M? Where is that blood money now?

I understand there is a field known as “forensic accounting”. And it is very hard to hide it, even if its a suitcase full of hundreds. They can “see” the money’s presence in things you’ve bought and the lifestyle you have.

Happens in divorces every day.

Should be easy to prove.

Nothing new. The brother of former Mexican president Salinas was responsible for shipping tons and tons of cocaine into California back in the 1990’s.

But there’s more:

There was a secret ARRANGEMENT between the DEA and El Chapo:

He would give our guys info about the loads/routes of other cartels.

In return:

Chapo would be apprised by the DEA when they were conducting ops that could affect his biz interests.

In other words, some of the DEA field ops were FOR SHOW.

If a drug cartel boss offers you $100 million, you don’t say “no.”

Or, you take that offer on the surface, and then, as president, you use the full force and manpower of the military to kill him and take the rest of his hundreds of millions, with bounties on the heads of any other cartel member. Depends on whether you want the status quo, with $100M most certainly not guaranteeing against any future bullet, or you clean up your country with their money after killing them all - a little Wyatt versus the Red Sashes replay, Messican style. Neito had no cahones. Just another maggot feeding off the dead.

Exactly. That is not an overstatement.
