The 7 Republicans who voted against back pay for furloughed workers

The House and Senate this week voted overwhelmingly to provide back pay to about 800,000 federal workers who are going without paychecks because of the partial government shutdown.

But seven lawmakers — all House Republicans — opposed the measure. Those "no" votes came from Reps. Justin Amash (Mich.), Andy Biggs (Ariz.), Paul Gosar (Ariz.), Glen Grothman (Wis.), Thomas Massie (Ky.), Chip Roy (Texas) and Ted Yoho (Fla.).

President Trump on Thursday indicated he would sign the bill, leading to its passage by unanimous consent in the Senate later that day. On Friday, the House cleared the measure in a 411-7 vote.

I don't agree with Trump on this one. Why should they get extended paid vacations on my dime? They are virtually all democrats and support the anti-Americans responsible for this crap to begin with. Why should government workers be treated special like they are doing us some kind of favor, at twice the rate of the public sector?

Because he has now identified which agencies can be cut and by how much

Because the deficit isn’t high enough yet.

Because this is a political battle, and Trump is using a divide and conquer, making concessions that would have been made over his veto anyway. It is the same reason he gave them all Christmas Eve off, to avoid the stories of folks being laid off before Christmas.

so much for the ‘holding fed workers hostage’ talking point of the Dems. Right out of the water.

Trump closes the govt and pays those workers while the depts. are evaluated for just how non-essential the non-essentials are. A Republican goal btw - to cut spending and size.

Nope. At first take i would agree, but IMHO you’re wrong: He just undermined SchuLosi. It’s not about the workers: It’s about policy. It’s about border security. It’s about the wall.

Amash is known to be bit of a stickler on some things. He has some small “L” libertarian leanings.

The last budget the President submitted to Congress axed a bunch of agencies. Ryan shrugged his shoulders and tossed the budget into the trash. Then the Republican-led Congress passed another deficit-ridden bill that axed no agencies. Trump knows what needs to go but it’s just a pipe dream with a Democrat House.

When do the furloughed workers get to make up the work they missed that they will now be getting paid for?

Wait around and not work, draw unemployment, then get back pay for not working, so you end up getting paid double for doing nothing?

STOP WASTING MY MONEY !!!

I’m with you...it weakens Trump’s hand a bit. He should have kept the federal workers guessing...may have gotten this shutdown ended much sooner.

Oh well, what’s done is done. It would have been very hard for Republicans in Congress to oppose this anyway.

You obviously group all government employees with the elites who own the Deep State - many are just average Joes who do a job and occasionally get caught up in a political battle.

People working, like the Coast Guard, TSA, etc., should definitely get back pay, plus a bonus for the hardship. Those not working should get absolutely nothing but the unemployment insurance they are entitled to. Trump is wrong in paying the later group and I won’t kiss his ass on this like a lot of morons here do.

I agree, why can’t they collect unemployment?

I ‘m pretty sure they subtract the unemployment from your back pay.
