Amen to that! My husband worked at Dow Chemical Co until he retired, Chemical Engineer. He was a great engineer, smart, conscientious, hard worker... He worked there until he retired, we were truly blessed. But whenever the corporation wanted to get rid of people they would have a massive lay off. It was one day you were working, the next day you were unemployed. You found a different job asap.

My dad was a cigar salesman when people were cutting back at smoking tobacco. Several times he got to work and found out there was no job. CLOSED sign on door. Usually no severance pay. Just no job. He had a wife and three kids.
No one cared, no one showed concern. It was just life. And he worked HARD!

I worked at a glass plant summers while going to Okla State U. The first summer was full time, all the hours I wanted and more. Summers 2 and 3 weren’t as steady. Many lay offs. I had to save up money for college. So I went to JC Penney and got a job while laid off from Libery Glass.
No one cared, no concern. You just went out and found a new job.

These weren’t cushy government overpaid jobs. It was the Real World.

I know of many people who worked for no pay when their employer couldn't make payroll. At some point, however, they decided it was time to move on because their employer wasn't coming back to life.

In this case, the shutdown is being caused because part of the company disagrees with the CEO on a $5bn expenditure. Let's look at this in context:

Federal Finances
FY 2018 Outcomes
Budget
billions
Outcome
billions
Receipts  $3,340 $3,329
Outlays $4,130 $4,108
Deficit $833 $779

Thus, this is all over 0.12% of the actual outlays.

If I was impacted by this situation, I'd be hopping mad at the House.
