I dont remember ever trying to take a boat into a bar.
Wifes grandfather was a fisherman in Breast France, fished 45 years, two weeks after retiring his entire crew drowned about 5 miles off shore from home.
Psalm 107:
23 They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; 24 These see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep. 25 For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof. 26 They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble. 27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit's end. 28 Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses. 29 He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. 30 Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven. 31 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
crossing the dangerous Yaquina Bay bar in 14 foot waves
14 foot waves have 14 foot troughs.
Oh, lord save us from standing men.
Not sure I understand your point in repeating yourself. It was not written for the US (or any other) Navy.
I’ll assume humor and you know what a bar is at the mouth of an inlet or river.
The Deadliest Catch producers did an Oregon Dungeness crab fishery spin-off show for a couple of seasons.
Mary B II, in happier times
Ive seen that boat unloading in home port, Newport, OR. God rest the crew.
That’s the only picture I could find of her.
“We therefore commit these earthly remains to the deep, looking for the general Resurrection in the last day, and the life of the world to come, through our Lord Jesus Christ; at Whose second coming in glorious majesty to judge the world, the sea shall yield up her dead; and the corruptible bodies of those who sleep in Him shall be changed, and made like unto His glorious body; according to the mighty working whereby He is able to subdue all things unto Himself. Amen.”
No it doesn’t. This boat that sunk was a 42 footer and all the boats that fish the Bering on the show are about 100 feet or longer and should be able to handle 14 foot seas without a problem.
Dungeness. Not king, bairdi, or opilio.
You couldn’t really run a Bering Sea crabber with only 3 crew either.
We know:
TV show Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove
I didn’t say it was... it was adopted by the USN and Royal Navy and many others.
I lost a long time friend on this boat. Sad day for many up and down the coast, Josh was well known. Lost a lot of friends in the fishing industry over the years, had a couple close calls myself on that bar. It’s a tough life, sad sometimes, but a great way of life overall.
I knew a guy who grew up in Roseburg, OR. His father owned a fishing fleet out of Coos Bay. He chose to work his college summers as a logger, setting choke chain, because fishing was too cold, uncomfortable and dangerous.
If you don’t know logging, setting choke chain is pretty dangerous.
the picture looks like it could be shot from the commercial wharves in Newport. Yaquina Bay in the background.
