Funny how people used to shun socialists for believing in that failed social/political/power system. Now they openly profess their adherence to it and laud their fascist fantasies of enforcing it.

I always felt that Joseph McCarthy bought this country valuable time by making Communism shameful in this country.

From the Communist revolution up the HUAC investigations (followed by McCarthy’s unrelated but well founded crusade on the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations to highlight communist infestation of our government) interest in Communism was regarded by many as being a harmless peccadillo, dabbled in by college students and eccentrics.

The actions of people in HUAC and McCarthy in particular made it shameful and unpalatable to normal Americans (As it should have been for an ideology responsible for hundreds of millions of murders in less than a century, never mind the oppression and imprisonment of many more)

McCarthy bought us at least a few decades, but beginning in the Sixties and culminating with the election of Barack Obama, it is no longer shameful and people have felt free to be open about it.

Which indicates a real underlying danger and corrosion to our freedom that they feel that freedom to be open about who they are due to lack of open negative judgement on their ideology.
