Politicians just interrupted regularly scheduled programming to bring you a message they’ve been repeating ad nauseum for the last three weeks.
President Trump went first. Sitting behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, he read a watered-down stump speech from a teleprompter. Illegal immigrants and a flood of drugs are streaming across the border, the president said in so many words. The shutdown is the fault of Democrats, he continued, and the solution is some variation of a wall.
Notably lacking? Fireworks.
Trump was presidential in that Trump was unusually low key. He didn’t declare a national emergency, a move which would have thrown Congress and the courts into an immediate crisis. He just repeated the boilerplate language from his campaign.
Democrats offered their rebuttal next, with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., standing cadaver-like behind a shared podium. They may haunt the dreams of any child who was unlucky enough to be awake during prime time, but aside from that they didn’t accomplish anything new.
Pelosi said the president was holding the country hostage. Schumer followed up arguing that the president was appealing to fear, not facts, and that Democrats and Republicans agree border security is necessary. They just disagree, Schumer posited, on how to do it.
Pundits promised that this would be a clash of the political titans, a rough-and-tumble exchange of fire worthy of the last two years of hysteria. It was instead a 20-minute dud with all the drama of a "Friends" rerun.
And believe it or not, that is a good thing.
Nothing bad happened tonight, because nothing dramatic went down and nothing changed. Governing from crisis leads to unforeseen outcomes and extra-constitutional actions. Instead, both sides laid out their battle lines after kicking a little dust in prime time.
Ahhh... but this battle is about the messaging and who is morally right. I think Trump won even before the battle started but the dems have their heels dug in as far as they can get them just to deny Trump a win.
We the people are not even a factor for the dems. Not even a little bit. This is purely about a political win to deny Trump this win and hopefully to prevent him from being re-elected in 2020.
This is all part of the long game. The tiny infinitesimal $5.6B is barely pocket change to congress. This is not about the money or even the border.
Nothing the dems say is true. They can’t say the truth because it would expose them for the lousy people and pols they really are. When they represent illegals over their own citizens they should be removed from office immediately without any further discussion. They look tiny and insignificant compared to Trump who is clearly looking out for Americans.
California is today a left wing state due to legal and illegal immigration. During the Regan years and prior it was a Republican State. All this crap is about changing the demographic voting population. The democrats want to flood us with aliens that will vote democrat which today is Socialist quasi communist
It is really that simple.
I was not at all impressed. I was hoping for a declaration of WAR! What I saw was more Harvey Milktoast ,Democrap kowtowing.....FIGHT ! MR. PRESIDENT ! KICK ASS & TAKE NAMES .
Trump looked presidential and sounded reasonable; Pelosi and Schumer looked frightening and unable to stand up without each other to lean on.

No, it’s about the wall. All the other nuanced considerations are just meaningless fluff.

To us it is but not to the dems. It's a multi-faceted attack on Trump and Americans but they don't see it that way. For them it's BAMN; By Any Means Necessary to gain back power and transform America into a shithole similar to CA (politically speaking; not geographically).
Normally somebody who looks like Chuck did is going down in a coffin as people pass by to pay last respects. Does he have health issues? Bill Clinton looks more lively than Chuck did .
Reaction to speech Chuck showed who is the Boss-—Nancy. They didn’t have much to say. I was hoping he would declare an Emergency—maybe in a few weeks.

...”off the roster” is the oft missed end of the phrase. Figuratively speaking, it’s the missing ingredient.

No, but they thought, “he might”.
The pitchforks were at ready, and the torches were lit...but he left them no reason to use either. They were poised in a three-point stance, ready with the “impeachment” threats, and the lawsuit threat, etc.
What he left them with was just enough to show that they were, in fact, against border security and all this was just political showboating on the part of the democrats.
He “out-alinsky’d” them, and they stood there like the idiots that they are, two tempests in teapots, with a dumbfounded look.
Trump rope-a-doped them again.
