After eight years as governor of Florida and a winning campaign for the Senate, Republican Rick Scott has plenty to say about his blueprint for appealing to Hispanic voters in the nation's largest swing state.
But when it comes to President Donald Trump's anti-immigrant rhetoric, his controversial push for border wall funding and his sharply panned response to Hurricane Maria, Scott prefers to change the subject.
"I think I got elected to get things done. I didn't get elected because I'm going to be, you know, giving the fiery speeches and being in the news every day," he said in an interview with The Washington Post.

I bet most Hispanics in Florida agree with Trump on the wall.
Most are likely Cuban or Puerto Rican, and have little use for Mexicans.
Enjoy your term, Governor!
Enjoy your term, Governor!
He’s a former Governor. Now a US Senator.
What I hear from Trump is that he is pro-immigrant . . . we need them in the work force. Trump is against illegal immigration that does not keep the bad actors out. Once again, journalists twisting the truth.
oops.
Scott’s lack of a backbone does concern me.
Apparently he’s landed in the right place in the Senate.
Senator Scott is in office for six years.
There was a lot of speculation here about Florida Hispanic voters. They went solid R. Some here on good ol FR think all Hispanics vote D....
You would be correct.
He’s a Bush League Republican.
Trump has never made a single comment that contains anti-immigrant rhetoric.
When the press omits the word "illegal," they signal that the story to follow is most likely filled with lies.
Trump was not panned for his hurricane performance. Thats pure fake news. And Rick Scott once again did a masterful job in response. THe panhandle is still suffering its effects because the devastation was immebse. Im confident tha de Santis will complete the job
Yes, they are mostly Cuban or Puerto Ricans for now, but I see money and more Mexicans here every day
FL is gone, the next election will prove me right.
should be...."more and more Mexicans"
Actually most Hispanic vote republican. Guess they remember the bay of pigs
Scott was a forceful, not a wallflower, governor. Like President Trump, Scott was a successful CEO who had never held office.
But, it appears he’ll adjust to being another disappointing GOP senator.
If this happens, it simply adds to the arguments against the 17th Amendment, being that institutions make their members.
