WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's first absence from the bench extended into a second day on Tuesday as the 85-year-old jurist continued her recovery from lung cancer surgery at home.

Although Ginsburg did not attend the oral arguments, she will participate in the cases and rulings by using the briefs and oral argument transcripts, Chief Justice John Roberts announced from the bench.

Why can’t all of Congress work this way. They can stay in their Districts/States, and vote from there. We have technology that would make that easy.

That would inconvenience the lobbyists. Can't have that! < /sarc >

I wonder if that tool Roberts and the rest of the left want to fake it into 2020, hoping the can rely on the “Biden Rule” and vote fraud in 2020.

The Biden Rule will not work when the GOP holds the Senate should the seat open up in early 2020.

It is doubtful that Ruth can hold on for an entire year. If we had a real Chief Justice he/she would tell Ruth it is time to retire.

She got to be on some serious drugs. Are the courts going to allow a drugged up person to vote on the SC? Isn't it illegal sign a contract when you are on drugs?

Hopefully Roberts will give her a few days and then tell her it's time to go.

Unacceptable! The presidential appointment and senate advise-and-consent was given to Ginsberg, not her clerks.

Ginsberg's clerks are supposed to aid her when drafting documents, not write documents and submit them in her name! Roberts is not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Every state has laws requiring timely disposition of human remains following death, usually within three days. This is enforced by county coroners who issues death certificates showing cause, date, time, location where death took place & under what circumstances, plus final disposition (burial, cremation, or donation to science).

Concealment of the fact of death is highly illegal.

Watch Roberts rule that she can participate after death as well.

If she should die during Trump's term the Dems will stuff her and hire a ventriloquist.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s insistence on refusing to resign from her duties although she’s unable to perform them makes a mockery of the Supreme Court.

Whatever else she might have done in her life will be overshadowed by the ghoulish exercise she’s putting the country through of following her serious illness to determine the future of America’s third branch of government.

Since she’s seriously ill, she’s most likely on serious drugs, which will impair the judgment she’ll use when ruling on cases.

Which means that a bright law student in full possession of his or her faculties could render more astute opinions than those coming from RBG’s addled brain. Is this what the Supreme Court has come to?

IN the year before he died, Justice William O Douglass attended Supreme Court justice meetings in a hospital bed. They had to wheel him up to the conference room.

correction to my post. I meant in the last year before he retired, not before he died. He finally retired because of his physical limitations and died 4 years later.

I don't know quite how to describe my response to your post.

I did not spew coffee all over my screen and keyboard. That may be because I wasn't drinking coffee.

It was not an LOL nor was it LMAOROTFPIMP moment.

It was just an appreciative Heh, heh, heh, heh, heh, for for 10 or 20 seconds and then a tear came to my eye because I recalled wondering to what extent, with RBG dead, how long Hollywood could employ a young body double, trained and made up for her part. Just prop her up, let her clerks write her opinions - she'd easily make it through 2024.

So I leave you with a simple "Heh. Good one." ;-)

I do not see Mike Pence ever being elected to the presidency. It takes a bold street fighter for any republican to be elected in today’s America.
Remaining always the polite gentleman will get you bulldozed ,walked on or ignored.
Nicky or Ted could do it.
