As we embark on 2019/Trump's third year in office with a foreboding sentiment hanging in the wings, I found this excellent timeline of what happened in 1983.

There are many similarities between then and now politically - Dems expanded their House majority by 26 seats in 1982 while the Republicans held the Senate. Many people thought Reagan was toast, and there were many bad things that year (the embassy bombing in Beirut, KAL 007, the Orioles beat the Phillies to win the World Series).

To be sure, the economy rebounded in 1983 while people are wiggling today that the Trump Recovery has run out of gas. However, you never know where inspiration or a story can arise - Reagan announced SDI this year, and basically that consumed a LOT of airtime. It also scared the Soviets. We have NO idea what Trump can cook up in 2019.

Personally, I got a huge sense of perspective (and got to relive some of my youth) in reviewing what happened, and it reinforced my sentiment that cries of The End of Trump are (again) premature.

PS: this web site pertains to Capacitance Electronic Discs or CED's, a consumer video format on grooved vinyl discs that was marketed by RCA in the 1980's. It is pretty cool outside of the timeline content.

Some things never change:

May 16, 1983: * A Boston judge rules that President Reagan's curbs on travel to Cuba are invalid.
