I suspect we are more at risk from the Democrats when/if the GOP and Trump works WITH them. If they go all radical on us and follow the harassment/impeachment path, they simply lack the power to do anything permanently damaging.
If however, they get nice, and play soft....surely eventually there’s a knife in the back. They will attempt to poison every bill they pass—and try to force the Senate to go along with it. If either Trump or the Senate majority folds, much can be lost.
I still have good, Christian friends that are offended by my Trump gear (hat and/or t-shirt) because "of the way he treats women", meaning the "grab them by the pussy" remark of two years ago.
They burnt that into the conscience of so many people in a relatively short time, that any adverse commentary, true or false, more easily found a nest in the decision making process.
It's our turn now.

I think that Trump will need to eventually invoke emergency powers this year or next to resolve this mess. The Dems almost certainly won’t give in at this point. Timing will be crucial; building the wall via emergency powers may be a only pretext to more sweeping actions against the traitors.
I don’t think he can play soft, give in to the Dems, go back to Florida and live out a quiet life with his family. The Dems are all in and they want to take him out by any means. He won’t be able to make a deal with Nazi Pelousy and Chuck U schumer that assures his personal comfort and survival after he is out of office. Would you trust these people?
So this conflict is not just about the survival of national sovergnity, it’s about his and his family’s personal survival. Remember, Ceasar was faced with a similar situation. He could have disbanded his Gaulic legions and gone back to Rome to face prosecution by the Senate. He would have been lucky to survive. This will be a Rubicon year for Trump.
He will need a loyal defense secretary.
