A visitor at Yosemite National Park reportedly fell to his death on Christmas Day, and the incident went unreported until now due to the ongoing government shutdown, a National Park Service spokesman said.
“The incident remains under investigation, which is taking longer than usual because of the shutdown,” Andrew Muñoz, a public affairs officer for the National Park Service, told Outside Magazine Thursday. “A news release wasn’t issued because of the shutdown. We aren’t releasing more details.”
NPS representatives did not respond to HuffPost’s requests for comment. (The NPS has said media lines would also be impacted by the shutdown.)
Muñoz told Outside Magazine’s Wes Siler that dispatchers at the Yosemite National Park Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call on the afternoon of Dec. 25 “regarding a male park visitor with a head injury above Nevada Fall.”
“Rangers were on scene in less than an hour and the visitor was removed from the water,” Muñoz said. “Medical attention was provided to the visitor, but he died from his injuries. The visitor was not in a closed area.”

Are you nuts? ALL of those horrible tragedies could have been averted if park rangers were there to hold the hands of these poor unfortunates and kept they out of the danger zone. If only the Evil Orange One hadn’t shut down the government!

On average, approximately 160 visitors per year die while visiting national parks— out of more 305 million visitors...

In other news, in spite of the slow reporting the park visitor is still DEAD.
I remember discussing the first one on here last week. We were trying to decide if it was a selfie induced suicide. That means it got reported somewhere.
Likely, most deaths in Nat’l Parks are males in their 20s and 30s.

On first reading, it sounds as if the body was lying there unreported for a week.
In actuality, the victim got as much assistance as possible as quickly as possible.
Whether or not it was “reported” to whomever isn’t important.
In Oregon, I once slipped on a banana slug while I was running barefoot. Felt like I got launched off a carrier deck.
In simple terms....he was ‘dead’ either way? He’d be dead with the government working, or dead via the shutdown. It’s just that the general public didn’t know he was dead.
You know, I feel like I’m living in some Twilight Zone episode, where everyone is in some nuthouse and I’m the only sane guy.
