Use common sense, and use a bike of such height that both your feet can touch the ground when sitting in the saddle. Your chances of falling become much less.
And watch your speed going downhill! Keep braking BEFORE the bike picks up lot of speed.
I fell on a 2 foot slippery & muddy slope and by reflex action tried to break my fall with hands. Bad move, because hurt my wrist and it is never going to heal completely, because it is till painful at certain angles after 4 years.
Best way to fall is like football players do, roll on your back.

I’ve been through worse, that’s why. (Four major lower back surgeries, learning how to walk again, two knees, broken elbow) and I’ve bounced back from it all. I’m the luckiest guy I know!

OUCH. Sorry to read this. I had a hard year with a spine issue, and it took a while to get to full recovery. But your year sounds worse.
Getting old might indeed suck...
