On the afternoon of 22 December, 2018, two young men decided to steal from a Coastal Farm & Ranch store in Marysville, Washington. Marysville is a town of about 60,000 population 35 miles north of Seattle. The two young men took nail guns worth about $3200 from the store, without paying. They did not expect opposition. Most stores teach their staff not to confront thieves. While it may prevent some lawsuits, it is an invitation to steal.
In this case, concerned citizens worked to stop the blatant theft. An impromptu militia of six formed up and surrounded the suspects' car with drawn pistols. From heralnet.com:
They didnt expect to be surrounded by about six customers with guns raised.
One customer was standing in front of the car, yelling at the alleged thieves to get out.
He wont shoot, run him over, one of the suspects reportedly said.
The driver pulled forward, causing the man confronting him to land on the hood, court papers say.
Another customer shot at the drivers side front tire, according to documents. A third fired twice at the rear tire.
Another responsible citizen followed the car until he thought they showed a gun. Then he backed off.
The car was found three blocks away with two flat tires. All the merchandise was inside. The police deployed a dog to track the suspects. The two suspects, 22 and 23 years old, were taken into custody.

“Residents stops” huh?
How very bloggish.
These two guys are screwed.
What race are those two suspects? The article did not say
A few thefts of a few thousand dollars worth of merchandise, and it starts to add up.
It is a small step but helps. We had a local county paper that reported all thefts, arrests and court proceedings. It was a very profitable niche in the news paper business.
Stool softners would help your disposition.
Trump should invite these guys to the White House.
“Another customer shot at the drivers side front tire, according to documents. A third fired twice at the rear tire.”
Not that I would have the presence of mind if ever I found myself in those circumstances, but I think I would shoot into the hood in an attempt to disable the engine.
What difference does their race make?
Add in “vehicular assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm” and “attempted homicide with a vehicle”.
Deepy doo!
But if an employee tried to stop them they’d be fired. WA law says you can’t charge someone with shoplifting if they haven’t left the store.
It’s not just the few thousand in merchandise- you have to consider the profit margin.
If they make a 20% profit on an item, then they have to sell 5 more just to break even for something stolen.
You mean the two thieves or the two that shot at the thieves car?
These two guys are screwed.
Isn’t stealing nail guns (essential for work) like stealing one’s horse in the Old West?
The engine block is impervious to almost any handgun bullet. Better to shoot at a tire than blindly through the hood on the off chance of hitting a hose.
While Ammoland is not a blog (at least no more than Freerepublic), you are correct that online publications have lower editorial standards than established, old-line print publications.
We are going through an interesting foundational shift.
While the online publishers often have lower standards, they also cover topics the old-line are unwilling to touch.
The online publishers have much lower operating costs, which allow them to make a profit.
Many of the old-line publishers can no longer make a profit, because of the higher costs.
Interesting times are seldom comfortable times.
Naw.
You can’t ride a nail gun.
Here we go, from the article embedded in the article:
“Marysville police Cmdr. Mark Thomas on Monday said its unclear if the other people involved fired their guns lawfully, as they left before law enforcement got there. Security footage showed one of them getting in a vehicle just as the first officer arrived, Thomas said.
Anytime youre firing a weapon in a public place, especially a few days before Christmas in a crowded parking lot, it is a grave concern, Thomas said.”
continued:
“The department is asking those who shot at the car to come forward and provide statements.”
