Taiwan could easily defend itself.
Simply learn from the Swiss. After their term of service, send every conscript home with their battle rifle and 100 rounds of ammunition. Bring them back every 12-18 months for a weekend of training and updates.
Even the most bloodthirsty communist would think twice about invading if they faced 2 million armed citizens. Taiwan’s independence and unique culture would be assured.
Taiwan definitely wouldn’t do anything close to that though, as they have a very European-style, leftist, progressive, top-down mindset.
You can send your sons to defend them.
“We are not about to send American boys 9 or 10 thousand miles away from home to do what Asian boys ought to be doing for themselves...”

Taiwan may very well vote in a government that has closer ties to China and China may absorb Taiwan without firing a shot.
You truly do not understand Chinese thinking, or the realities of China today.
2 million people is NOTHING to them. We have 4 cities bigger than 2 million. They have 61.
Anecdotally, in a casual conversation with a polite and demure little college girl during one of my trips to China, she simply noted that it would be worth losing 100,000,000 Chinese if it meant Reunification. One hundred million. That's more than the number of eeeeeevil white males in the US over age 17. ALL of them. And college kids there think nothing of sacrificing that number for this goal. Think on that for a while.
A well-armed island is no easy military target... but Taiwan only has 23 million people, total, for the entire country. China does not fear the losses needed to accomplish this goal. Hell, some welcome the population reduction.
No need to invade to win -— the Chinese could just shell Taiwan flat. Remember Matsu and Quemoi in the ‘60s? China has many, many arty, rocket and missile batteries trained on Taiwan today. I think there was another big build arty up a few years or ten back.
