BEETHOVEN: VIOLIN SONATA IN A MINOR, “KREUTZER,” OP. 47

Adolphe Kreutzer never played this sonata even though Lou wrote it for him. Those honors went to George Bridgetower, a English violinist whose mother was black. Lou and George were drinking buddies until they got into a brawl over a girl. At one point in rehearsal, George added something that was not in the score. Lou stopped playing piano and said, “Oh that was good! Do it again!” George did, Lou reached for his pen and inkwell, and made an addition. This movement is tough on the musicians but an absolute romp for the audience.

Hubby came in from the garage a little while ago and said a few fireworks were going off around here. Not close enough to see but he could hear them. There are usually a lot going off at midnight each New Years Eve and we can see some then. I’ll poke my head out in an hour.

That’s the only aria in “La Wally” that was any good. The last performance of Catalani’s opera in the US was 1910. When an opera doesn’t get performed for a very long time, there is usually a good reason.

I can’t blame you for not missing working, especially this time of year. But I wouldn’t have minded gussying up a bit to go out to play tonight. I get tired of wearing my grubbies all the time.

The cats ARE pretty chill tonight, thank goodness. The wind kicked up late last night and reeeeeeally roared today and that had them wound up big time. There’s no wind now so all’s calm outside and in. WHEW!!

No fireworks shot off here but there are folks in the area who have some. Hubby heard some earlier and I hope there’s no more rain so a lot will be shot off at midnight. It’s warm enough to be comfy while outside watching.

They were wilder ‘n March hares this afternoon but I attributed it to the wind roaring outside. I don’t know if a 5 is strong enough to be sensed this far away by them or not. That 8+ y’all had apparently was though. They were set off about the same time that one rumbled.
