Confucius say, “Merchant Prince with no customers soon become bankrupt.”.......................
Brave author.
The author does not write of the total picture of the China growth and development issues. There is no mention of the internal disparities that have developed while tremendous change was in process over the last three decades.
China is an extremely geographic, cultural and economic nation. There are regions and people in China that have not benefited much from the extemely rapid change. The challenge for the government is to achieve economic change for wider geographical and cultural elements of the population
While the girls of Shanghi have found and treasure Daisey Maes and ripped knee jeans, a solemn religious ceremony in far Tibet was carried out by ordinarily dressed folks and one guy in jeans and a stetson. Other regions, like tibet are not yet modern like Shanghi and the Pearl River Delta.
I observe and present my finding.
The comments on South China Morning Post are always filled with ardent Chinese nationalists. they are called “Wu Maos” meaning “50 cents” - what they are supposedly paid by Chinese security services per post on targeted media.
My first visit to that huge city included,at rush hour,a few Soviet era buses,a number of Soviet era limos (for big shots,no doubt) and about 750,000 bicycles.
The most recent visit featured huge glass and steel skyscrapers and bumper-to-bumper Toyotas,Kias and Buicks (yes,Buicks).
If the US,Europe and Japan hadn't open their ports to the cr@p made in China in the 90s,rush hour in Guangzhou would still feature 750,000 (or more) bicycles.
China doesn’t care about its economic success. Communism always creates economic disaster to subjugate the people, even to the point of starving them.
