I worked Christmas eve, Christmas day and will work New Years eve and New Years day but I am not a federal employee so I am not posting about it multiple times like it is some kind of big deal. If I didn’t like it, I would get another job. II think there are way too many fedgov employees and they get paid way too much for what they do.

Do you work in a hospital?

Where I work, no one can work on a holiday unless they get permission first. I gave one man permission to work Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year's.

There are different kinds of essential employees. I am essential in the case of a government shut-down, but not if it snows.

I spent 22-years overseas with US Army, Army DoD, and US Dept of State. I worked my first six Christmas 24-hours as Charge of Quarters (CQ) and five of six New Years Day as CQ in the 82d Abn Div between 74 and 80, two more Christmas Days in Korea and one New Years Day during the next four years there. At the the Dept of State I worked in the IPC all 8 Christmas Days and New Years Days for two hours check the ques for message traffic; at a small post with two communicators it can be tough splitting holidays. 33-years with the govt and 22 years overseas. I worked while others would have drown had they pulled their weight:) - I get that anti-govt sentiment of some but until they’ll walked in my boots they don’t know jack.
