Remember when the Left called any American involvement in Africa as “economic imperialism”. Imagine what the Media and the UN would blare and whine if the US extracted a piece of African sovereignty for a loan repayment. Very little will said criticizing the very serious Chinese. Nevertheless observant people are getting a glimpse of the future. China has a robust economy and a powerful military. It has no tradition of diffidence or reserve when its interests are at stake. Africa has minerals. China needs them. Fill in the rest.

It would require a MAJOR national effort on the part of the Chinese to project an expeditionary force that far from home and keep it supplied.

Against even the meager Kenyan military.

The Chinese will enforce their interests financially for the near and mid-term, as they have little in other options.
