Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Florida's Broward County Sheriff's Office plans to change its policy on how deputies respond to active shooters in response to the Feb. 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

The policy changes include altering language in what is expected of deputies in active shooting situations to indicate they "shall" attempt to enter the scene and intervene rather than "may," according to an internal memo by Sheriff Scott Israel to Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, who is the chair of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission. The letter was obtained by the Miami Herald.

"The use of the word 'may' in the BSO policy is ambiguous and does not unequivocally convey the expectation that deputies are expected to immediately enter an active assailant scene where gunfire is active and neutralize the threat," the commission wrote in a draft report of its

Still wouldn’t want Scott Peterson in my foxhole! You can change the words, but if a man is a coward, it won’t make any difference. Someone should go sing “Old Yellowstain Blues” under Scott’s bedroom window.

Shall is a very important word. No one ever disrespects the meaning of shall.

"...the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

All well And fine, but didn’t a court rule that they had no obligation to protect the kids? Does this change that? Did the case turn on “may” vs. “shall”?

Seriously, how do you screen for gutless, cowardly worms that can sit outside, armed - and patiently listen to unarmed innocent children getting slaughtered?

It isn’t hard. Sneak in, isolate the shooter; pop around a corner and a few shots to the head and center mass. End the slaughter. You announce yourself and attempt arrest when there is not current slaughter going on.

They can be removed from office.

No public servant cannot ever be removed from office. We are all under the law and laws exist for removal, whether they are used a lot or not.

Wonder when the Pentagon will get around to requiring telling our military members "they shall attempt to engage/kill/bomb/bayonet/burn" active shooters rather than "they will kill/bomb/bayonet/burn active shooters"...

The term "active shooters" will be enforced because "the enemy bastards" is offensive to people of many cultures...

Doesn't look too good for the day when the chicom bastards decide to get into a ground war with us...

And it's a liberal Democrat community so there's going to 'circling the wagons'.

He's a scoundrel but he's our scoundrel and fascist Nazi Republicans aren't going to tell us how to run our police department!

Why? Sheriff Israel said they did everything perfectly, it was the NRA that needed to change.

I doubt that will result in a different response. Shyness in the presence of danger is probably a cultural problem that drifted down from the northeast.
