SECRETARY OF DEFENSE 3000 DEFENSE PENTAGON WASHINGTON, DC 2030i 41060

December 20, 2018

Dear Mr. President:

I have been privileged to serve as our country?s 26th Secretary of Defense which has allowed me to serve alongside our men and women of the Department in defense of our citizens and our ideals.

I am proud of the progress that has been made over the past two years on some of the key goals articulated in our National Defense Strategy: putting the Department on a more sound budgetary footing, improving readiness and lethality in our forces, and reforming the Department?s business practices for greater performance. Our troops continue to provide the capabilities needed to prevail in con?ict and sustain strong U.S. global in?uence.

One core belief I have always held is that our strength as a nation is inextricably linked to the strength of our unique and comprehensive system of alliances and partnerships. While the US remains the indispensable nation in the free world, we cannot protect our interests or serve that role effectively without maintaining strong alliances and showing respect to those allies. Like you, I have said from the beginning that the armed forces of the United States should not be the policeman of the world. Instead, we must use all tools of American power to provide for the common defense, including providing effective leadership to our alliances. 29 democracies demonstrated that strength in their commitment to fighting alongside us following the 9-11 attack on America. The Defeat?ISIS coalition of 74 nations is ?irther proof.

Similarly, I believe we must be resolute and unambiguous in our approach to those countries whose strategic interests are increasingly in tension with ours. It is clear that China and Russia, for example, want to shape a world consistent with their authoritarian model gaining veto authority over other nations? economic, diplomatic, and security decisions to promote their own interests at the expense of their neighbors, America and our allies. That is why we must use all the tools of American power to provide for the common defense.

My views on treating allies with respect and also being clear-eyed about both malign actors and strategic competitors are strongly held and informed by over four decades of immersion in these issues. We must do everything possible to advance an international order that is most conducive to our security, prosperity and values, and we are strengthened in this effort by the solidarity of our alliances.

Because you?have the right to have a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours on these and other subjects, I believe it is right for me to step down from my position. The end date for my tenure is February 28, 2019, a date that should allow suf?cient time for a successor to be nominated and con?rmed as well as to make sure the Department?s interests are properly articulated and protected at upcoming events to include Congressional

Did you miss the part where he said we must do everything possible to advance an international order?

Greg Jarrett said Mattis wanted to bring a lot of dems into White House positions, as he is a Democrat himself.

He said the above himself. You’re right, and seems to be me like he wants to be part of the one world government.

So it would seem that Mattis is a globalist. I suspect if you forced him to define what he means by the ‘common defense’ he would fall on the side of globalism and not nationalism.

Isolationism is like North Korea. Not playing policeman and meddling around in other countries business is not isolationism.

We need a clean slate because we cannot stay in all these countries forever. The O admin was just horrible and caused more trouble we didn’t need.

We are in many places. Too many. Places like Syria, Afghanistan. So far, over the past Bushobama wars, we are still there and Americans are still dying for nothing.

Easy to wanna stay when it isn’t your family doing the dying.

Syria and Afghanistan are not our country. It is you that values external meddling over our country and troops. THEY pay the price.

Yes, Constitutionalism is about as relevant as Assyriology to contemporary US politics. The carefully designed structure of checks and balances and limited though strong government designed by the Framers is virtually never really referred to in DC other than ‘the common good’ phrase to incorporate any idiocy. Did the Framers really consider the transgendered (and they were around in the 18th century, just research the strange person who called himself the Chevalier D’Eon de Beaumont while mostly posing as a woman.) to possess special rights as a ‘sexual minority’’? The Constitution has become instead of the lodestar of our political system a vulcanized item that can be stretched to cover anything some special interest is pushing.

In this case it appears it was the CMC Gen Amos that did the Pontius Pilate act.
Considering the huge feces storm the Haditha incident created Frank Wuterich and his men were fortunate not to have been sent to prison, not that they should have been.

FUJM!

I hope you slide under a gas truck and taste your own blood.

When they made you, they forgot to put in the loyalty.

I stand with the President!

This is a snippet of what Gen (R) Barry McCaffrey makes of all this. “We’re in trouble... on very shaky ground. The President sounds erratic, impulsive and making fundamentally bad decisions... Congress [is] going to have to... step in. provide oversight over what increasingly looks like a rogue presidency”- https://twitter.com/mccaffreyr3?lang=en

I had a higher opinion of McCaffrey before I read your post. WTF. The President is doing nothing ‘rogue’. He is not listening to the echo of K Street coming from his supposed professional defense advisers. Trump is actually performing his office as the Framers meant it to be. As the Chief Executive of a Constitutional Republic he is in ultimate control of the military forces and foreign policy of the nation. What he is doing is a clear exercise of ‘The Buck Stops Here’ leadership. McCaffrey is certainly neither stupid or ignorant so either his monetary masters are pulling his strings or the permanent government really has gotten above itself and truly believes the experts by self-definition rule and not the people or the people's elected representatives.
