Senior Pentagon officials struggled on Wednesday not to contradict national security adviser John Boltons bellicose declaration this week that the U.S. wont leave Syria until Iran does.
Those officials are pushing ahead with the wars original aim: defeating the so-called Islamic State. But while the goal of defeating ISIS is closer than ever, Bolton has pushed its end even further back.
I would disaggregate overall U.S. policy objectives from our military activities, Robert Karem, the assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs, told a congressional panel on Wednesday. We are not seeking war with Iran.
We are not conducting operations against Iran.
Gives an overview of the situation in Syria and the media narrative.
Notice how the narrative has completely changed.
So noted, Bolton is a big time Globalist, maybe he can get a job working directly for the UN.
Looks as though Bolton will be one of the upcoming “resignations.” I just have to wonder how big your ego has to be to be a WH advisor. Seems like most of them “freelance” their own ideas in opposition to the President.
I wonder when Mike Flynn will be available?
“Looks as though Bolton will be one of the upcoming resignations.”
This article is from September, not something he said after the President’s announcement.
I hope Bolton stays.
Bolton and the President need to communicate. DJT stipulated no such thing when he said we were pulling out.
John Bolton will be one of the next to go.
Probably by April. He too, is out of step with the vision this president has. Bolton probably should not have been brought on in the first place. He has certain strengths made for certain times.
“I hope Bolton stays.”
I used to think the same thing, but Bolton seems to enjoy creating situations for America to go to war for. So if that’s his end game, he should bow out. This mistaken idea that in order to be relevant, we have to flex our muscles (i.e. spend our money and allow our young people to be killed), then count me out.
He was one of Trump’s most baffling hires. I never understood why Trump would hire a guy who was tailor-made for a senior cabinet post in a Jeb Bush administration.
Same thing with Niki Haley. A NeverTrumper.

AC, it isn’t just Bolton. As much as I love Donald Trump, his ability to pick decent people to staff his administration hasn’t been one of his strong points. I think part of it can be charged off to being a political novice, and also the time proven mistaken idea that he could, by his staffing picks, curry favor with the GOPE. He needs to abandon any thought of having a decent working relationship with the bulk of the “republicans” in Congress. They have never wanted to have to lead anything, and besides, their financial “benefactors” are always in the way of doing what’s right for the citizens of this country. Because to them, America is just a very big “market,” not a sovereign country.
Bolton can’t leave soon enough for me, and he can take Pompeo with him.
Pretty quick turn around - I’m wondering if we haven’t gotten good info that the rebels actually did the chemical attacks....
I doubt it... Bolton and Mattis were at odds.
