This is standard Trump tactics. Appear to be open minded allowing opposition to offer its position followed by absolute rejection of a completely unacceptable offer. That has already happened. Trump will get his (our) wall, butterfly gardens notwithstanding.
So letting violent felons out of prison early must have been acceptable,. All of those victims and their families. Maybe even the criminal who shot my daughter.

And from what empirical evidence do you draw that conclusion? All I’ve seen is talk for 2 years. I saw a line in the sand last week. Now, it looks as if that’s not such a clear line.
