Stephen Miller: Trump will 'absolutely' shut down the government over border wall fight
Washington Examiner ^ | December 16, 2018 11:21 AM | Naomi Lim

White House senior policy adviser Stephen Miller promised Sunday that President Trump will partially shut down the federal government if he doesn't get the funding he's requested for his southern border wall.

"We're going to do whatever is necessary to build the border wall to stop this ongoing crisis of illegal immigration. If it comes to it, absolutely," Miller told CBS News when asked whether Trump would allow the government to shut down over the funding fight.

"This is a very fundamental issue. At stake is the question of whether or not the United States remains a sovereign country, whether or not we can establish and enforce rules for entrance into our country," Miller said. "The Democrat party has a simple choice: They can either choose to fight for America's working class or to promote illegal immigration. You can't do both."

Trump wants Congress to approve $5 billion in border wall funding before a Dec. 21 deadline, by which time a new spending or delay measure must be passed by lawmakers on Capitol Hill and signed by the president before current funding levels expire. Congressional Democrats, however, are unwilling to agree to more than $1.6 billion for Trump's proposed impediments along the southern border with Mexico — and insist they won't provide funding to pay for a physical wall.

Miller declined to answer Sunday whether there was any "wiggle room" on Trump's $5 billion demand.

"I'm not going to negotiate the details on air with you right now," he said.

Better plan on a 6-month or more shutdown: the Dems won’t budge.

Shut it down. Preferably with Schumer & Pelosi caught in the enmeshed gears.

The panic in the media and Dem/Rhino contingent is all based on the masses realizing just how unnecessary all the shut down depts. of Fedzilla really are.

They will just get a court to open it back up. Trump will have to defy a court order. I hope he does.

It’s no good unless he shuts down the EBT benefits and the section 8 housing funds for illegal aliens.

As read.....”At stake is the question of whether or not the United States remains a Sovereign Country, whether or not we can establish and enforce rules for entrance into our country”.....

That’s exactly right....and of course that’s exactly what the Global Elites do NOT want. They’re fully in bed with “World Governance” of which they’re all rallying to lay claim for their own seat at that table of power and/or preparing the way and assisting for those who will be.

All he has to do is shut down something they need. Like Muellers office.

Pelosi already said she would close the government “forever” before she would fund the wall.

Wouldn't that be great! A lot of the dead wood would quite naturally dry up and fall away!

However I don't want our military to suffer....hopefully our guys have something up their sleeves so that won't happen and why only a “partial’ shut down.

The hell with paying them anything. It’s a lay off. Wait a week and apply for unemployment. Your section gets a budget cut. Find another job. I survived. It sucked. I lived.

Seeing as there are more jobs out there than applicants at the moment, a shutdown is a great opportunity for any good federal workers to move on to better jobs. At the same time with a government hiring freeze (if that’s still in place) it’s further opportunity to down size the government ‘voluntarily’. Being a glass half full type, what’s the down side?

Quite stunning that the governance of this country now operates from the desks of unelected Judges and Attorney’s.

why move on? When they come back they get the pay they missed during the “shut down.”
