I was sure that was a typo. Nope. Almost a trillion dollars for this. We spend about $700B for defense.
The Constitution says that we should defend the country, so a Defense budget is necessary. But a Farm Bill? I'm not sure the federal government should spend a penny on that stuff. States can, if they want, but why do the Feds manipulate the farm sector?
Without the farm bill you would be spending 6 bucks for a loaf of bread and 10/gallon for milk. As a farmer, it doesn’t make any difference to me. It would definitely increase my income if they did away with subsidies since I don’t eat many bread products, and I don’t drink milk. I would love to start getting 10/bushel for my wheat instead of 5.
The bill is over 5 years.
80% is SNAP (food stamps).
Why do they manipulate ANYTHING?
