Climate change talks result in renewed pledge to cut emissions

The EU and scores of developing countries have pledged to toughen their existing commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to enable the world to stay within a 1.5C rise in global warming.

The promise, which follows increasingly dire scientific warnings, was the most positive message yet to come from the ongoing talks in Poland.

The announcement came at the end of a day in which the UN secretary general made an impassioned intervention to rescue the talks, which have been distracted by US, Russian and Saudi moves to downgrade scientific advice.

The former US vice-president Al Gore told delegates they faced “the single most important moral choice in history of humanity”.

Hey, UN... y’all let me know when China has reduced emissions to current US levels. We’ll talk then.

I thought the Paris Accord already did that. Of course, every target in that agreement has been missed so far.

Here is the interesting part. The liberals don’t care about the planet, they know it’s OK. They care about wielding power and control over others. Signing on to the deals is what matters because the money flows to the “right people” as far as the Left is concerned.

Actual compliance other than paying in the money is unimportant. In fact, it’s preferred. The “problem” must not be solved as that would take away the purported reason for needing control.

I’ll be flying to Vietnam & Thailand next month, going first class both ways. Accrediting to environmentalists, this one trip alone uses up nine years of what should be my “travel ration”.

Somehow I don’t feel guilty...

I’m with you on that one! My goal is to make my carbon footprint so large that it can be seen from outer space.
